Description

TYP. DUN-NE. PICTURE RAIL.
Patented June 10, 1890.
' [Ali/E/VTOI? v ATTO/VEY WITH/E8858:
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS P. DUNNE, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
PICTURE-RAIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,788, dated June 10, 1890.
Serial No. 328,629. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS P. DUNNE, of the city, county, and State of New York, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture- Rails, of which the following is a specification.
The object of myinvention is to provide a picture-rail on which the ordinary hooks can be applied, but which also has additional hooks, thus dispensing with the ordinary hooks, which are frequently of such size as not to fit on the rail, and thereby cause great inconvenience.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts and details, as will be fully described hereinafter, and finally be pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a combined perspective view and cross-section of my improved picture-frame. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of a modified construction.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The rail A is provided with the usual top bead A for receiving the picture-hooks.
A series of wire hooks H are secured on the rail in the following manner: Said hooks are made of a single piece of wire bent at the top to form prongs D, which are driven into the top rear shoulder of the rail, and at the lower end said wire is bent to form the hook, which hooks are arranged about four inches apart and project below the bottom edge of the rail.
The advantage of myimproved picture-rail is that the hooks are at all times permanently secured to the rail in a reliable manner and cannot accidentally be thrown on? while removing a picture. They are strong and durable and do not in any way mar the appearance of the rail. They rest snugly against the Wall, thereby causing the picture or mirror to hang well.
As shown in Fig. 2, the hooks can be passed through apertures in the rail.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with a wooden picture rail having a rounded top edge adapted to receive and hold removable picture-hooks, and also provided with apertures for receiving permanent hooks of wire, of wire hooks passed through said apertures and permanently held in the same and engaging the top of said rail, the lower parts of said wires forming hooks at the bottom part and front of the rail, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOS. P. DUNNE.
