Definitions
- My invention consists in a medical compound formed or composed from the following ingredients, combined in the following proportions: Olive-oil, two hundred and fifty grams; calomel, ten grams; lime-Water, one hundred grams, and aguardiente, (Spanish rum,) one hundred and forty grams. These ingredients are to be thoroughly mingled by agitation.
- the above-named compound is to be used as a local application in severe cuts, contusions, burns, or amputations. It not only allays the inflammation, but will suppress suppuration. In cases of amputation especially it tends to remove the danger of the inflammation which usually attends such operations, and at the same time hastens the process of healing from the third day thereafter. In ordinary cuts it is usually only necessary to unite the edges of the wound and apply the remedy, and on'the third day it is perfectly healed. In cases of burns, scalds, bad ulcers, and even where gangrene has appeared, the application of the remedy will allay the pain, re move the gangrene, give a healthy color to the ulcer, and hasten its cure. In variolous affections, notwithstanding the pustules may have appeared upon the face of the patient, the application ofthis remedy will cause them to disappear in twenty-four hours without in any Way interfering with the natural development of the eruption throughout the rest of the body.

Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J OSE ESQUINALDO, OF KEY \VEST, FLORIDA.
LINIMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,720, dated June 10, 1890.
Application filed August 22, 1888. Serial No. 283,495. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J osn ESQUINALDO, a subject of the King of Spain, but residing at Key \Vest, in the county of Monroe and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Composition of Matter for Medicinal Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in a medical compound formed or composed from the following ingredients, combined in the following proportions: Olive-oil, two hundred and fifty grams; calomel, ten grams; lime-Water, one hundred grams, and aguardiente, (Spanish rum,) one hundred and forty grams. These ingredients are to be thoroughly mingled by agitation.
The above-named compound is to be used as a local application in severe cuts, contusions, burns, or amputations.
What I claim is- The herein-described medical compound, consisting of olive-oil, calomel, lime-water, and aguardiente, (or Spanish rum,) combined in the proportions substantially as described.
his JOSE ESQUINALDO.
