SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,451, dated June 3, 1890.

Be it known that I, FRANKLIN B. HUNT, a citizen of the United. States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Wayne and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in plows; and it consists, primarily, in an improved construct-ion of the standard, and also in the addition of the beam thereto in sucha manner as to combine the whole strength of the beam and standard, said standard being cast with all its parts integral and ready to receive and sustain the different parts of the plow, thus forming one strong central piece or support, to which the different parts of the plow are attached separately and independently of each other; and, further, the invention consists in certain details in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts, substantially as will be hereinafter fully described and then claimed.

Like letters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout all the different figures of the drawings.

A denotes the beam of the plow, which has the curved rear end a, adapted to reach around to the rear of the standard and be connected thereto at a point considerably below the plane of the horizontal portion, of the plowbeam and in line-ofthe draft.

B B designate the plow-handles, which are of any suitable form and construction, being connected together by any suitable connection, as I). These handles are respectively secured to the handle-sockets H and I, which are formed integral with the standard C.

C denotes the standard. It constitutes a strong central piece or support to which all the different parts of the plow are separately and independently attached. This standard is of suitable curvature, shape, form, and outline to enable it to permit the proper attach ment thereto of the several parts of the plow, which diifer obviously in shape and function. Thus it has a curvature corresponding to the curvature of the mold-board G, which is securely bolt-ed or otherwise secured to it. The share or point F is likewise. firmly secured to the standard 0 in proper position. This standard has the rearward extension or vertical offset landside-face C, which is cast integral with the standard and which reaches backwardin the line-of the draft sufficiently far to afford sufficientroom to permit the curved rear portion of the plow-beam to be bolted thereto upon the inside face thereof, as shown, said inside face being smooth and the said rearward extension having a vertical length equal to the vertical length of the standard on its landside'. The standard is further provided with the horizontal recess, offset, or rabbet 0 on the lower edge of the outer face of the rearward extension C, wherein is situated the bar or landside D, of the proper length and size. Thus itwill be seen that the connection of the plow-beam with the standard is such that the beam will be in line with the landside D and a central draft will be obtained and the strongest possible combination of plow and standard is made.

The standard is provided with the handlesockets H and I, which are cast integral with it, the socket H being preferably formed integral with the standard proper C, and the socket I preferably formed integral with the rearward extension C.

A novel and distinctive feature, therefore, of this invention consists in the standard having all its parts cast integral to provide seats for all the different parts of the plow to wit., the share, mold-board,landside, plowbeam, and handles-providing as it does a strong central support, to which all the parts are separately and independently attached. The front edge of the lower end of the beam rests against the rear of the standard at such apoint as to combine entire strength of the IOO beam and standard for the purpose of sustainin the draft.

The standard cast in one piece with the integral rearward extension extending the vertical length of the standard, said extenslon forming the landside-face and having the straight inside face in line of the draft, to which the beam is attached.

2. The standard having the rearward integral extension extending the vertical length of said standard on the landside-face,incombination with the beam permanently fixed to the inside of said extension.

3. The standard provided with the integral handle-sockets and having the rearward integral extension extending the vertical length of said standard on the landside-face, in combination with the beam permanently fixed to the inside of said extension.

4. The standard formed with the seat for the mold-board and share, and the integral rearward extension on the landsideface reaching down to the landside-bar, and the fixed to the straight inside face of said extension, and the front edge of the rear end of the beam resting against the rear of the standard proper, whereby the strain is taken from the bolts that seen re the beam to the inside of the integral extension.
