Description

-(No Model.)
W. D. HARRISON' 8v D. C. BURFORD. BLEVATOR.
No. 428,841.- Paenta-Ma, 27, 1890.
-lm f UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
A WILLIAM D. HARRISON AND DANIEL O. BURFORD, OF PINE BLUFF,
ARKANSAS.
E'LEVATO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,841, dated May 27, 1890.
Application filed March 19, 1890.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM D. HARRI- soN and DANIEL C. BUEEoRD, citizens of the United States, residing at Pine Blu, in the county of Jefferson and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Elevators; and we do declare the following` to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention has relation to lever elevators; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts. It is intended to sit in front of the platform, grasp a barrel or other like thing, elevate it, and then to tip forward and set it on the platform, or it is intended to sit on the floor and grasp a barrel or other like thing and swing it round either to the right or left and letit down anywhere within the reach of its arm. It may grasp a barrel below the head under the hoops, or it may take hold at each end of the barrel.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of our invention ready to lift a barrel and set it on the platform in front of it. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of our invention ready to lift a barrel and swing it round and lay it on the platform in rear of it. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are detail views.
Our invention is described as follows: A are the two legs, secured in the platform-casting a.. Said casting has extending from its rear side an eye a. In said eye is secured the upper end of the brace a2, its lower end being sharp, so that it will not slip on the floor. The lower ends of the said legs A are brought to an edge, so that they will not slip on the floor, and may be tilted forward without perceptible jar. On the upper face of the said platform-casting is pivoted a lever-fulcrum B, its pivot b passing down through the center of said casting, and from the Vupper end of said fulcruni extend perforated ears h', between which is fulcrinned a lever O. Said lever is provided with several fulcruIn-perfo- Serial No. 344,576. (No model.)
rations c, the object of which it is unnecessary to explain. In the front end of said lever is pivoted a perforated upright bar D, the perforations being for the purpose of allowing the same to be raised or lowered. To the lower end of said bar l) is attached by suitable rings and linksa pair of ice-tongs E,the upper ends of which have several perforations e, so that said tongs maybe arranged to grasp a small or large article. To the free end of said lever is attached a rope having a ring E. The said platform-casting a is provided on each side with a socket f, as deep as indicated by the dotted lines f', Fig. et, and on its front face with a downward extension g, having on its front and rear faces flanges g', and as deep as indicated by the dotted lines g2, and from the rear face of said downward extension g extends an eye a', the purpose of which is above explained. Said legs A are held in place by means of bolts g3, which pass through the said legs A and through said downward extension, secured by a proper nut, which holds said legs firmly in the sockets f, and between the flanges g of said platform-casting.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rlhe combination of the casting a, provided with the sockets f, downward extensions g, flanges g, and the eye a', legs A, secured in the sockets f and between flanges g of said casting, brace a2, hinged in said eye a', fulcruin B, having the pivot b and perforated ears b', lever C, pivoted in said fulcrum, perforated bar D, pivoted inV the short end of said lever, and tongs E, secured to the lower end of said bar D by means of proper rings and links, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimon y whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
VILLIAM D. HARRISON. DANIEL O. BURFORD.
XVitnesses:
JOHN R. WEsTBRooK, RUFUs H. M. MILLS.
