S.ARNOLD. NECK YOKE.
No. 427,949. Patented May 13, 1890.

SIDNEY ARNOLD, OF LEES SUMMIT, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF THREE-FOURTHS TO ELIZABETH A. ALLBRITTEN AND MOLLIE E, HOOVER, BOTH OF SAME PLACE.
NECK-YOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,949, dated May 13, 1890.
Application led December 5, 1889. Serial No. 332,630. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SIDNEY ARNoLD,a citizen of the United States, residing at Lees Summit, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Neck-Yoke Center, of Which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in neck-yoke centers; and it consists in certain io novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
1 In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved neck-yoke center. Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views taken at right angles to each other. Fig. e is a detail perspective view of the couplingblock.
The neck-yoke A is of the usual or any preferred construction, and to the center of the 2o same I secure the divided ring B, composed of hinged sections b and b', the ends of which form the lugs C, as shown. The hinged sections h and b are provided with perforations h2 and b3, through which passes a screw or bolt to secure the ring to the neck-yoke The upper end of the conpling-block D is inserted between the lugs C and provided with the transverse opening E, through which and the lugs C a pivot-pin F is inserted, the ends of go said pin being secured rigidly in the lugs O.
The lower end of the coupling-block is provided with a transverse opening G at right angles to the opening E at the upper end of the block, and a pivot-pin H is inserted 55 through the said opening. A loop I has its upper ends secured rigidly to the ends of the pivot-pin H. The pivots F and H oppositely hinge the endsv of the coupling-block and render the neck-yoke center capable of a forward and lateral swinging motion.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a neck-yoke center which is extremely simple in its construction, and in which the several parts are so arq ranged and connected that it can easily and freely move in all directions. The loop I is engaged over the end of the tongue, as will be readily understood, and the pivotal connection of the coupling-block with the said loop permits the neck-yoke to move longitudinally of the tongue, while the pivotal connection of the upper end of the block with the divided ring permits the neck-yoke to move at right angles to the tongue, thus allowing the neck-yoke to accommodate itself to the motion of the tongue and of the horses heads. The device is very simple and is strong and durable.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The combination of the divided ring composed of sections having their ends terminating in lugs C, the coupling-block D, having the horizontal openings E and G, arranged at right angles to each other, the loop, and the pivots F and H, oppositely hinging the ends of the coupling-block, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SIDNEY ARNOLD.
