Description
NITE States ATENT 1 much,
JAMES EVERETT BULL, OF TRACY CITY, TENNESSEE.
HAME-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 427,041, dated May 6, 1890.
Application filed September 6, 1889. Serial No. 323,181. (No model.)
T0 on whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AMES EVERETT BULL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tracy City, in the county of Grundy and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful flame-Fastening, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in hame-fasteners.
The object of the present invention is to provide a hame-fastener of simple and inexf pensive construction, capable of ready and convenient operation, and not liable to become accidentally loosened after once being secured in place.
The'invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hame-fastener constructed in accordance with the invention, showing the position of the lever when locked. Fig. 2 is a front elevation showing the position of the lever preparatory to locking. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view.
Referring to the accompanying drawings- 'by letter, A designates a Wooden hame of ordinary construction, provided along its outer edge with a metal plate B, the side of which is provided with a notch 19, that is designed to be engaged by the free end of the lever O to hold the latter in its locked position. The free end of the lever O is provided with alateral projection c, which engages the rear face of the metal plate B, the lever 0 having to be forced aside to release the projection c from such engagement, and the hame A is provided opposite the notch 17 of the metal plate B with a recess to enable the lateral projection c to readily engage the plate B. The lower end of the lever is pivoted to a flange (Z, which is formed integral with a metal socket D, that incloses the end of the hame and protects the latter. The socket has also formed integral tance of its lower end with a perforation 0 in which is secured a link 6 of a chain E. The other end 6 of the chain is designed to be engaged by a hook pivoted to the opposite hame, and the hames are fastened by swinging the lever O upward and engaging lateral projections c with the plate 13.
I have shown and described the invention as applied to the ordinary wooden hame; but it may, if desired, be used on a metal hame,
the latter to receive the lever C, and a suitable recess is provided to be engaged by the free end of the lever.
From the foregoing it will readily-be seen that hame-fasteners made in accordance with this invention are simple and cheap in construction, adapted to be readily adjusted to the size of a collar, and are capable of being rapidly fastened and unfastened, and are not liable to become accidentally loose.
hat. I claim is The combination of the hame provided with a recess arranged at the corner or angle formed by the faces of the hame, the metal plate having its outer edge projecting over the recess and partially closing the same, the metal socket fitting upon the end of the hame, and having the integral metal plates cl and (1 arranged upon opposite sides of the hame, said socket being provided with an integral flange d, and the lever carrying a chair and pivoted to said flange (Z, and having its face arranged flush with the face of the hame, said lever being provided at its free end with a lateral projection 0, adapted to fit in the said recess of the hame and engage the plate B at the outer edge thereof, said lever being capable of having its free end drawn. laterally from the hame to carry the lateral projection 0 into and out of engagement with the plate B, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixcd mysignat-ure in presence of two Witnesses.
