SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 426,503, dated April 29, 1890. Application filed June 29, 1889. Serial No. 815,980. (No specimens.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN KELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lheater-lickets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

It is the object of my invention to save time and inconvenience in the distribution and 'use of tickets, such as those which are used for theaters and for similar purposes.

My invention relates more especially to the construction of a coupon theater-ticket, whereby the coupon may be detached with great ease, certainty, and rapidity, such ticketsbeing arranged in sheets or series, which series indicates a row or section of contiguous seats, whereby the seller of the tickets is enabled at a glance to ascertain just how many seats and where located in the row or section he .has at his disposal, the sheets or strips of tickets thus serving practically as a diagram of all of the seats in the house.

It further relates to the construction of such tickets in rolls having spaces adapted to receive the date of use, which date will be sup. plied by a small dating-machine or pair of rollers, the feeding of the tickets to which latter will be guided and regulated by the peculiar construction of the ticket hereinbefore referred to, thus adapting this form of ticket arranged in rolls especially to the use of theators in the smaller cities or of other places of amusement which do not have entertainments upon every date, but whose use of tickets is irregular.

In order to make my invention clearly understood, I have shown in the accompanying drawings means for carrying the same into effect.

In said drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a theater-ticket embodying my inven tion. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a series of such tickets belonging to the respective seats of a certain row or section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a roll of such tickets having a space for the date of use.

Referring to the drawings, A. indicates the line C is formed a V-shaped cut, recess, or indentation D, the inner end of which terminates in or upon the said line. It will be seen that the operation of detaching the coupons is thus rendered considerably easier and more certain and rapid, it being insured that the severance of the coupon shall take place exactly upon the proper line, leaving the main portions of the various tickets and the coupens of a regular and uniform shape.

At Fig. 2 is shown atS aseries of such tickets, numbered in series, the indentations or recesses D of which are formed by square or diamond-shaped holes punched completely through the sheet at the intersections of the lines E, which separate the various tickets, with the line C, which separates the coupons from the main portions. IVhen the tickets are thus arranged in series, the lines E consist of perforations or indentations which partially separate the tickets from each other in the same manner in which the coupon is partially separated from the body of the ticket. The various series S, which will be conveniently arranged in the ticket office for inspection by the seller, will thus constitute an exact diagram of all the seats at his disposal and their location in the house, the ticket for any one of which, together with its coupon, may be readily detached and delivered to the purchaser.

In Fig. 3 is shown at It a roll of such tickets the inscriptions upon which indicate the place of amusement, the location of the seat, and, if desired, the cost of the same, but which are undated, and which are provided with blank spaces d for the date of use. These rolls are to be furnished for the use of the smaller theaters, the performances of which are of irregular occurrence, and they will be dated by a small dating machine, the feeding of the tickets to which willbe guided and regulated by the perforations D.

Having thus described. my invention, what I claim is 1. A series of theater-tickets partially severed or divided from each other, the various tickets of which are respectively numbered to indicate the seats of a certain row or section, said tickets beingprovided with coupons partially severed from the main bodies of the tickets and with perforations D within the body of the sheet of tickets at the intersections of said lines of division, substantially as set forth.

2. A series of theater-tickets arranged in a roll, the various tickets being partially severed or divided from each other, having coupons which are partially severed or divided from the tickets and having Within the body of the sheet of tickets at the intersections of said lines of division the perforations D,substantiallyas and for the purposes set forth.
