CUFF-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 425,669, dated April 15, 1890.

To all wltom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IRA L. GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing atSt. Regis Falls, in the county of Franklin and State of NewYork, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention has relation to improvements in cuff-holders; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same whereby an improved article of manufacture is produced, all as will be hereinafter fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention, in which- Figure l' represents a side view of my cuffholder. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-section taken on line 00 00 Fig. 2. Fig. {4: is a bottom view. Fig. 5 is a top view. Fig. 6 is a side view of a cuff, showing my holder applied thereto; and Fig. 7 is a cross-sectional view of a sleeve and cuff, showing my holder in position.

Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the cuff-holder, consisting of the curved spring-clasp a and a button b, which latter is rigidly secured to said clasp.

The clasp a for holding the cuff consists of an outer curved spring arm or plate 0, the end cl of which is slightly bent outward, as at a, forming a lip or guide for the edge of a cuif in the act of entering the clasp. This plate is also bent upon itself, as at f. The intermediate curved portion or plate 9 is again bent at it upon itself, and the continuation of this bend forms an inner spring-plate 2', the end j of which is bent, forming a lip is similar to that formed on the end of the outer plate, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The button Z) of this holder is secured to the central portion of the inner curved plate 6, and the latter as well as the outer plate 0 are bent in wardly toward the intermediate plate, as at Z 1, whereby a strong spring pressure is brought to hear at these points upon the cuff.

It will be seen from the above description and by reference to the annexed drawings that the three parts of which the clasp is constructed is formed of a single piece, and that the peculiar curvature of the spring-plates c 1' form strong gripping-arms, whereby the cuff is held in place after being adjusted by the wearer. The extreme ends of the inner and outer spring-arms extend to the bends in the intermediate plate, and said ends being bent on the sides upwardly, as well as at the point, the cuff can both he slid or passed within the spring-arms at said point or in the same at the sides. By this construction the springarms are convex on their inner faces and concaved on their outer faces, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing.

In operation the wearer simply fastens the button to his sleeve and forces the edges of the cuff between the spring-plates aforesaid,

the upturnedlips e 7e affordinga guide therefor, whereby said edges of the cuff can readily enter between said spring-plates and the intermediate plate g both at the point of said arms or at the sides thereof, and that the cuff can be readily adjusted in raising or lowering it, andcan be used as a sleeve-button, if desired, by removing the cuff and ornamenting the spring-clasp. At the same time it is durable and cheap to manufacture.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-

As an improved article of manufacture, the within-described cuff-holder, consisting of a spring-cl asp and button'secured thereto, said clasp composed of the outer curved springarm 0, having the concavo-convex end forming alip 011 either side, and bent at finto an intermediate curved plate g, the latter bent at h into an inner curved spring-arm t' having the concavo-convex end j, said arms and plate formed integral, and said ends of the arms adapted to receive a cuff at the sides thereof as well as at the end, substantially as described.
