Description
(No Model.)
I H. T. SMITH. SASH FASTENER.
No. 425,191. Patented Apr. 8, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY T. SMITH, OF CARROLL, OHIO.
SASH-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 425,191, dated April 8, 1890.
Application filed February l, 1890. Serial No. 338,934. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY T. SMITH, residing at Carroll, Faireld county, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Sash-Lock, of which the following is a speci- Iication.
My invention is an improvement in sashfasteners; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a window lprovided with my improvement, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section. Fig. 3 is a face View of one side of the window-frame provided with my improved fastener. Fig. 4 is a view of a part of one edge of one of the sashes. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the fastener, and Figs. 6 and 7 are detail views.
The fastener proper consists of a case A, formed with parallel wings B B', and a connecting-wing O, which unites the wings B B', the whole case presenting an approximately Z-shape, as shown. The wings B B are made hollowand are closed on their inner sides or backs by a cover-plate a, which, preferably, is pivoted to the case so it maybe turned clear of the interior of wings B B when access thereto is desired. Longitudinal slots l) are formed in the faces of wings B B', and openings b are formed in the ends of such wings for the passage of the handle-rods D ject sufficient-ly far to enter. the notches or seats in the sash-frames. The saslrframes G have in their edges grooves g, in the outer walls of which are formed notches or seats to -receivc the bolts c, such notches being arranged correspondingly to the positions in which it is desired to hold the sashes, and the bolt c when in such notches operating to lock vthe sash iirmly in position.
In applying the fastening, the case A, wit-h the handle-rods removed, is fitted in a suitable mortise-frame in the window-frame, as shown, and lthe handle rods are passed through suitable holes in the sash through openings b' and into the wings B B', and are threaded to the lock-blocks, the said handlerods thus serving to retain the 4casing A in place.
l The device is simple, easily operated, and by it either sash may be held in any suitable adjustment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved sash-lock, consisting of the casing having the parallel wings, and the connecting wing uniting the inner ends thereof, having in the front face of such parallel wings longitudinal slots and in the ends of such wings perforations or openings, the locklolocks held and adapted to slide in said parallel wings and provided. with bolt-like portions extended through the face-slots, the handle-rods passed through the openings in the ends of the case-wings and connected with the lock-blocks, and the springs on said rods arranged to bear between the lock-blocks and the ends of the casing, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
HENRY T. SMITH. Witnesses:
