Machines for Rubbing or Brushing the Soles UNITED STATES PATENT OFF-ICE.
JAMES F. THOMPSON, OF ROOKLAND, ASSIGNOR TO OHARLES F. BAKER, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
SOLE-BRUSHING MACHINE,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 423,968, dated March 25, 1890.
Application filed December 17, 1889- Serial No. 334,104 (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES F. THOMPSON, of Rockland, county of Plymouth, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in of Boots and Shoes, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanyin g drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention has for its object to COD- struct a machine for rubbing or brushing the soles of boots and shoes.
In accordance with this invention the brush is mounted on an arm which is arranged to travel in a curved path, and means are provided for adjusting the said arm to vary its path of movement when desired.
My invention consists in details of construction to be hereinafter pointed out.
Figure 1 shows in front elevation a machine parts.
A shaft a has its bearings in the frame B and carries a drive-pulley a and a beltpulley a Two idlers a a are arranged in brackets beneath the frame B, over which passes a belt I), leading from the belt-pulley a said belt also passing overa pulley c, secured to an upright shaft 0, having its bearings in the frame.
A block cl, grooved longitudinally,
is secured to the shaft 0, to be revolved by it. An adjustable block is arranged in the groove in said block d, to which one end of the arm e is loosely connected, the said adjustable block being held securely in place at different portions of the groove by means of a nut c, said adjustable nut enabling the arm e to be connected to the rotatable block (1 at different distances from its center of rotation.
The
movable at will in a curved block e.
The
on the end of the arm e, is curved, describing for instance an oval or a circle. A grooved plate 9 is secured to the frame B, which also serves as a guide for the arm 0 at or near its upper end. As the shaft e is revolved it will be seen that the block d in revolving moves the arm 6 on said pivot as may be desired, and for which proper adjustment is made.
A boot or shoe the sole of which is to be rubbed or brushed is held on the jack n, of any suitable construction, by the operator, he moving it to present different parts of the 6 sole to the brush.
I claim- 1. In a machine of the kind described, the brush having a curvilinear motion, and arm carrying it, the rotatable block d, to which said arm is loosely and adj ustably connected, and the longitudinally-adjustable pivot for the arm at the point between its ends, substantially as described.
2. In a machine of the kind described, the 7 5 brush and arm carrying it, slotted at e to receive the block adjustable in the frame, combined with the rotatable block (5, grooved 10ngitudinally and having anadjustable block thereon to which said arm is loosely connected, and means, substantially as described, for rotating the said block d, substantially as described.
3. In a machine of the kind described, the brush and longitudinally-reciprocating arm 8 5 carrying it, and a rotatable block for actuating said arm, combined with the movable holding-jack, substantially as described.
In testimonywhereof I'have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES F. 'rnoMrsoN.
