SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,585, dated June 7, 1887.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM GORDON, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sole-Edge-Burnishing Machines, of which the following is aspecification.
' .Thisinvention relates to boot and shoe sole edge machines; audit consists in the improvements hereinafter described and set forth.

The shanks of said tools are adapted to slidein said sockets, and are pressed downwardly therein by springs m as far as pins 12 on said shanks, abutting against stops in the sockets, will permit. The tools are thus adapted to yield, as will be readily seen.

It will be seen that the two tools, acting simultaneousl y, burnish more rapidly than a single tool, the work performed in a given time being nearly equal to that performed bytwo machines having only one tool each, while only one operator is required.
To prevent the burnishing-tools from swiveling or turning too loosely, I provide the levers t with downwardly-projecting lips Z, which are close to the rear sides of the tools and prevent the tools from turning, so that their lips will stand across the line of their movement. 1
