Z. BEAUDRY. Edge- Trimmer for Bootand Shoe Soles.
Patented Jan. 18,1881.
N,PETERS, PHOTD-LITHOGRAPHER WASH NGTON D c EUNITED STATES PATENT Pr ce.
ZOTIQUE BEAUDRY, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS.
EDGE-TRIMMER FOR BOOT AND SHOE SOLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 236,664, dated January 18, 1881. Application filed May 7, 1 880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ZOTIQUE BEAUDRY, of Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Edge-Trimmers for the Soles of Boots and Shoes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates more particularly to an ed ge-trimmer for soles of boots and shoes, such as shown and described in my application for Letters Patent of the United States filed the 31st day of December, A. D. 1879, although, as will be obvious, it is applicable to other edge-trimmers.
The invention consists in the combination, with an edgetrimmer, of a rest and seat for the fore part of the arm to the hand which grasps the tool and holds it to the sole during the trimming operation, substantially as hereinafter described.
I am aware that a sole-burnisher has been provided with a rest for the hand, whereby the boot or shoe can be held firmly up to the burnishing-tool, and that a stationary armrest has been used in connection with such hand-rest, as shown in Patent No. 227,308. Under my invention, however, the arm-rest is connected with a swinging handle of the trimming-knife, and subserves the purpose of a propelling device, enabling the operator'to exert the weight of his body in operating the machine.
In the accompanying plate of drawings this invention is illustrated, Figure 1 being a side view, in skeleton, of the stock of an edgetrimmer of my said improved construction, and showing the improved arm-rest applied thereto; Fig. 2, a plan view; and Fig. 3, a section on line w a", Fig. 1.
In the drawings, A represents the carryingstock or holder of a tool of my said improved construction, which stock A is grasped by the hand of the operator for the presentation of the edge-trimming knife B (and other parts, not shown) to the boot or shoe to be trimmed; G, the arm-rest or seat. This arm-rest or seat 0 is shaped in its part a to partially surround the fore part of the arm to the hand of the op erator which grasps the stock, and is attached, by its shank b, to the tilting frame D of the tool, and from one side of such frame it projects, so as to bring the hollow or concave p01"- tion (1 of the seat or rest in the proper position to make a rest for the side of the arm of the operator which is toward the tool in the handling of the same to trim the edge-0t the boot or shoe. This rest for the arm serves to steady the tool in its operation, to enable the operator to better manipulate and hold it to its work of trimming, all as is obvious.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the handle of a soleedge-trimming machine mounted on a swinging support, of the arm-rest O, projecting from the rear portion of said handle, and arranged to receive and support the forearm of the operator when the handle is grasped by the hand, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ZOTIQUE BEAUDRY.
