' GEORGE o. STANTON, OF
NEW IBERIA, LOUISIANA.
STRAlNlNG- PQT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 421,777, dated February 18, 1890.
Serial No. 320.262- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE CORNELIUS STANTON,a citizen of the United States, residing at New Iberia, in the parish of Orleans and State of 'Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a-Measuring-Pot; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention hasrelation to improvements in measuring and straining pots; and it consists in the construction, novel combination, and adaptation of devices, that will be fully understood from the following description and claims. when taken in connection with the. annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved measuring and straining 'pot. Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same, the funnel being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a face view of the strainer of the outlet-spout; and Fig. 4C is a detail view of the straininginlet funnel.
Referring to the annexed drawings by letter, A indicates my improved measuring-pot, the body of which is preferably cylindrical in form. Upon the periphery of the body A at stated distances I place ribs or rings a, to afford a measuring means for measuring the contents of the vessel.
B indicates the handle of my device, which may be of any ordinary or approved construc- .tion.
0 indicates the cover of the pot, which is hinged or otherwise secured to the body portion.
II indicates a funnel-strainenwhich is preferably provided witha flange or rim L, for the purpose presently described. This funnel is also provided at the junction of its body and-neck witha perforated disk tostrain the liquid as it is poured into the vessel.
I indicates an annular recess in the meuth of the pot for the reception of the flange or rirnof the funnel and adapted to seat the same flushwith the top of the vessel, so as to offer no obstruction to the closing of the top.
D indicates the funnel-shaped outlet. This outlet is provided at the point of its junction to the pot with a strainer K, to strain the fluid while being poured 0111:.
G indicates the spout of the discharge D,.
which is provided with a cap-stopper E, to prevent the entrance of insects and dust to the body of the pot.
In operation the liquid is drawn into funnel H and passes slowly through strainer J, by reason of the proportional size thereof, into the body portion, where it is measured, and it is then poured out through the funnelshape spout D,being again strained by pass ing through the strainer K.
I claim- 1. The combination, with the pitcher having the annular seat I in its mouth, and also having a hinge-cover. O, of the removable funnel H, having the flange L, to enter the seat I in the mouth of the pitcher, whereby the hinged cover may tightly close the mouth of the pitcher, the said funnel being removable to afford access to the interior of the pitcher, and provided with a strainer J, to prevent the entrance of impurities, substantially as specified. V
2. The pitcher having the hinge-cover and the discharge-spout provided with a strainer K and a reduced outlet G, and also having an annular seat I in its mouth portion, in coinbination with the removable funnel H, having the strainer J' and the annular flange L, whereby the said funnel maybe placed in the pitcher and be flush with the top thereof, so-
as to permit the cover to be closely seated upon the top, substantially as specified.
In testimonywhereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE C. STANTON. Witnesses:
J. O. M. ROBERTSON, WALTER J. BURKE.
