0. WHITNEY. ORGAN CASE.
Patented Jan. '7, 1890.
29mm dk @lvwom to 'cprovements 4 UNITED STATES ORISON C. HITNEY,
OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
ORGAN-GAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 419,000, dated January '7, 1890. Original application filed March 6, 1886, Serial No. 194,288. Divided and this application filed December 15, 1888. Serial No.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORISON O. WHITNEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, county of Ouyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Organ-Cases, of which the following is a specification, the principle of the invention being herein explained and the best mode in which I have contemplated applying that principle, so as to distinguish it from other inventions.
My invention has for its object the imhereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an organ provided with my improved appliances. Fig. 2 is a detail plan view of the lamp-bracket. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the locking-button.
v The front face A of the organ-case is provided above the keys and adjacent thereto on either side of the-music-rack with the horizontal slot to. Pivoted within said slot at a is the lamp-bracket b, of quadrant or other desired form. Said bracket'is provided on its outer edge with bead b, of greater thickness than the height of the slot, which it effectually conceals and closes when the bracket isswung within the slot. When not in use,
1 the bracket is intended to be swung within the slot and entirely inclosed by and concealed within the organ-case.
It is desirable in organs that certain of the panels be easily removable in order to open up the case for cleaning or repairing the organ or regulating the mechanism of the same.
Furthermore, it is desirable that said removable portions may be removed and replaced in position without the necessity of using a screw-driver or other tool. To this end I provided the key-slip O and the front lower panel F with an adjustable lock that may be operated from outside the case merely by turning a knob, and thus the removableportions removed and again inserted and securely looked, as desired. The lower edge of key-slip C fits in any suitable rabbet formed in the case. Said key-slip is provided near its respective longitudinal ends with a pivotal lever lock or button d, provided with hook d and shank 61 the latter journaled through the key-slip and provided on its (N0 model.)
outer side with hand-knob d These buttons look over shoulders 2 within the case and secure the key-slip rigidlyin position. Asimilar button is pivoted in the panel F and locks the same in a similar manner by engaging with shoulder 6 within the case.
The foregoing description and accompanying drawings set forth in detail mechanism in embodiment of my invention. Change maybe made therein provided the principles of construction respectively recited in the following claims are employed.
This application is a division of my application, Serial No. 194,288, filed March 6, 1886, embracing claims for an improvement in organs patented April 17, 1889, N 0. 401,474.
I therefore particularly point out and distinctly claim as my invention- 1. The combination, with an organ-case provided with a slot, of a swinging lampbracket fitted in said slot, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a pivotal lampbracket, of an organ-case provided with a slot formed in the front section of the same, in which said slot said lamp-bracket is fitted, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with a pivotal bracket provided on its outer edge with a bead, of an organ-case provided with a slot formed in the front section of the same, said bracket adjacent to the organ key-board and sliding within said slot, the opening of which is adapted to be closed by said bead, substantially as set forth.
shaped bracket provided with a plane upper face and having its outer edge provided with a bead, of an organ-case provided with a slot formed in the front section of the same, said bracket adjacent to the organ key-board and adapted to slide within said slot, the opening of which is adapted to be closed by said bead, substantially as set forth.
5. The combination, with a pivotal sectorshaped bracket provided with a plane upper face and having its outer edge provided with a bead, of an organ-case provided with a slot formed in the front section of the same, the
vertical thickness of said bead being greater than the vertical height of said slot, said a removable portion of said case, of a pivotal lever-lock d, having central shank portion (1 j ournaled through said removable portion, 15 said button provided at its outer extremity outside the organ-case with knob (1 and provided at its inner extremity with the hook (1, formed at right angles to said shank portion and engaging with the inner portion of said organ-case, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing to be my invention I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of December, A. D. 1888.
ORISON O. WHITNEY.
