Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WVM. RIDENOUR AND MA'HLON K. BISER, OF SPRINGFIELD, OHIO, ASSIGNORS 'IO THEMSELVES AND GEORGE FEY. v
IMPROVEMENT IN HAY AND COTTON PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 4 I,S93., dated March 8, 1864. y
To UZZZ whom t may concern.:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM RIDENOUR and MAiILoN K. BIsER, -both of Springfield, Clark county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ealing-Presses; and we do hereby declare the following to bea full,
clear, and exact description-thereof, referencel iam Ridenour on the 10th day of March, 1863.
The ropeF is attached at the upper extremity of the long arm E of the toggle, and in line with the sheave G immediately beneath it, and the sheaves G G G G are so arranged as for the power to be applied substantially in a single plane longitudinal ofthe press. By the above arrangement we avoid the diagonal strain and indirect application of power which results from attaching the cord on one side of the toggle. The floor II and follower I are channeled longitudinally, .J to permit the insertion'of the hoops. The passage of the hoops blocks K at the ends of the channels J in the floor H, which, by dellecting the ends of the hoops, act to conduct them past the corners. In order still further to facilitate the application of the hoops, we give our end or discharging door, L, the form of a grating composed of vertical bars Z, separated by interstices Z. The interstices Z allow the advancing end of the hoop to pass out in front, (see red lines in Fig. 1,) where, being grasped by one of the operators, it is drawn taut and returned through the upper part of the grating, to be fastened. The end door, L Z Z', is hinged to the frame, as in the Ridenour patent aforesaid.
We claim herein as new and of our invention- 1. In a horizontal baling-press of the construction specified, the hinged and grated discharge-door L Z Z', applied and operating in combination with grooves J J, in the mannerV and for the purposes set forth.
2. In combination with the above, the slanting blocks K K at the ends of the floor-channels J, for the object specified.
In testimony of which invention we hereunto set our hands.
WM.' EIDENoUE. M K. BIsEE.
