Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.r
IMPROVEMENT IN BATHING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part ot Letters Patent No. 41,773, dated March 1, 1864.
To atl 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENsLER, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Bathing Apparatus; vand I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this speciiication, in which- Figure l is a vertical section ot' my invention, taken in the line m x, Fig. 2; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same, taken in the line y y, Fig. l; Fig. 3, a detached vperspective view of a pan used when the device is to be heated.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully 'understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it. y
A represents a closet, which may be of rectangular or other proper form, and having doors a at its front side, which may be provided with windowsbfor the admission of light. This closet should be of such dimensions as to accommodate one person comfortably, either sitting orstandin g. The bottom or door c of the closet is perforated, as shown at d, and below said iloor there is a tank, B, provided with a faucet, e.
At the top of the closet A there is a tank, C, in which a vertical slotted tube, D, is tted, containing a valve, E. The tube D extends some distance below the tank C and is made ot'tlaring form at its lower end, and has its bottom j' perforated, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The valve E has a cord, g, attached to it, and
this cord extends down within the closet A to admit of the occupant ofthe closet raising the valve when a shower-bath is -required. This shower-bath mechanism is not new in itself, and other forms or plans might be used for the purpose.
The shower-bath tank C is supplied with Water by means of a pump, F, which is within the closet, and is operated by the occupant therein, the pump F drawing or forcing the water from a reservoir underneath the closet ory at the outer side thereof. F is the eduction-pipe ot' the pump.
The tank B receives the waste water, which passes through the perforations d in the door c of the closet.
Within the closet there is placed a chair, G, and a pan, H, is placed underneath the chair. This pan may be constructed in any proper Way to receive a spirit-lamp or any substance as a fuel to heat the closet when the occupant desires a sweating bath. This last operation is rendered more efficient by means of a cloth partition, I. (Shown in Figs. l and 2.) This partition is simply a cloth having its ends attached to bars g g', which rest on cleats h h at two opposite sides of the closet. By adjusting these bars y g', the cloth may be made to extend horizontally across the closet and form a partition to materially reduce theheight of the interior of the closet. When this partition is not required for use,it may be folded or the two bars shoved backward in contact with each other, as indicated in red in Fig. 2,-
so as to be entirely out of the way when the shower-bath is used.
Thus, by this simple arrangement, a very portable and desirable bathing apparatus is obtained, one that may be used at pleasure either as a shower-bath or as a sudatory, and which may be used and operated by any person with the greatest facility.
Having thus described `my invention, What i
