Description

E. C. HASERICK.
Paint Brush Guard.
Patented March I, 1864'.
14/4 WES SE6 UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
E. C. HASERIOK, OF LAKE VILLAGE, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
' IMPROVED GUARD TO PAINT-BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 41.772, dated March 1, 1864.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, E. O. HASERICK, of Lake Village, in the county of Belknap and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Guard Attachment for Paint- Brushes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a paintbrush having my invention applied to it, the latter being in section, as indicated by the line as m, Fig. 2; Fig. 2, a View of the narrow or thin side of the paint-brush.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts in the two figures;
This invention relates to that class of devices in which there is attached to the paintbrush a rod or bar of metal, wood, bone, or other suitable material, extending down. by the side of the brush, so that in using the latter the former will rest upon the article being painted and serve as a guard or guide, preventing the brush from slipping or sliding, and enabling the painter to paint windowsashes without daubing the glass, and also to stripe articles with straight stripes and with far greater facility than usual.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A represents a small paint-brush of fiat form and constructed in the usual manner, and B is a piece of india-rubber tubing, which is fitted on the metal band 0 of the brush, and
having a short bar or rod, D, fitted in loops a in the rubber. This bar or rod D may be constructed of metal, wood, bone, or other suitable material, the side adjoining the brush being flat or a plane surface, and the outer surface of convex form and rounded at its lower end to a point, as shown in Fig. 2.
The upper end of the bar or rod D is connected to the brush-handle by a screw or pin, 1), and a clamp formed by a bent wire, 0, is fitted on the rubber tubing B, pressing against it at two opposite sides. This clamp 0 is designed chiefly t'or round brushes, as it compresses or flattens them. The bar or rod D extends down nearly or quite to the end of the brush, and in using the latter the former bears upon the article being painted, or at the side or edge of it, and serves as a guide to steady the brush, insuring straight stripes being made, and also enabling window-sashes being painted without danger of daubin g the glass.
The bar or rod D is by the narrow side of the brush, and one or two of them may be used, as desired. Two might bepret'erable for some kinds of work. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is-
The employment of the el-asticlooped band B, in combination with the guard D and brush A, in the manner and for the purpose herein shown and described.
I E. G. HASERIOK. Witnesses:
