PHILIPP KNORPP, or STAPLETON, NEW YORK.
SIGN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,925, dated December 10, 1889.
Application filed September 27, 1889- Serial No. 325,266. {N0 model.)
cord, is passed around the edges of the plate To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PHILIPP KNoRPP, of Stapleton, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Signs, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved sign, whichis simple in construction, highly attractive, strong, and durable.
The invention consists in a sign composed of a plate on which letters are fixed, corner- Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The body-plate A of the design is made of glass, card-board, metal, wood, or any other suitable material, glass being preferred, and on the same letters are secured by means of adhesive material, cement, solder, &c., which letters are made of metal having facets and known as brilliant or diamond letters. Enameled letters or letters made of glass, porcelain, or other material may be A chain 0, or a A and secured to angles or corner-sockets D, placed on the corners of the plate A, this chain or cord 0 thus serving asa supporter for the sign, and also as a border or frame for the same. or cord between the corner-pieces on the top edge of the sign-plate A is made slightly slack, so as to serve as a hanger for suspending the sign. The corner-pieces protect the corners, which is of special importance in case the sign-plate is made of glass.-
By my improvement the suspending chain or cord can be secured in place without requiring any riveting or drilling of holes, which drilling of holes is. very apt to break and ruin glass plates.
'By making the signs in the manner described the cost of making and supplying them is reduced considerably.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A signcomposed of a plate having letters fixed thereon, combined with angular cornerpieces for receiving the corners of the plate,
That part of the chain and a cord or chain passed around the plate and over the outer closed edges of the cornerpieces and secured to said closed edges of the corner-pieces, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
