SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,807, dated December 10, i889.
Application filed September '7, 1889. Serial No. 323,305. (No model.)
.To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY ROTHERMEL, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Mans` field, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invent-ed certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Slate-Cleaner and Pencil-Eraser; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in a slate-cleaner and pencil-eraser for school pu rposes, and its nature and distinctive characteristics are fully described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings I illustrate a slate-cleaner and pencil-eraser embodying the invention.
Figure l is a View of slate-cleaner and pencil-eraser. Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal section of same, showing its general construction.
In the drawings, A indicates a soft-rubber case, which is half-sphericalin form and constructed concave in the bottom, the case being formed hollow to form a chamber, said walls and bottom of case to be of a parallel thickness. A circular opening D is made through the case at the crown to connect with the chamber C. The chamber C is for the purpose of holding a sponge, which is placed in the chamber C through the opening D.;
B is a rubber eraser, which is constructed conical in form.` Said eraser is so constructed on its lower end to form aplug E large enough to impinge the inner walls of the opening D, the said plug bein gmade smaller than the ,base of the cone, forming a flange to prevent any leakage of the water from the sponge.
The operation of the device is as follows:
When it is only necessary to erase pencil-V marks, the eraser B is left in its relative position; but should the operator wish to use the ure upon the case, and the sponge will return intov the chamber.
The invention being so simple in construction, it is unnecessary to explain `the same concaved to receive a sponge, and having itsy upper end tapering to form anA eraser, sub- HENRY ROTHERMEL.
