By this means the wick can be raised or lowered and held reliably at any point of elevation.
The oil-reservoir is provided with a vent, which consists of an elongated chamber F, set upon the top of the oil-reservoir, having a depressed center fiwhich nearly meets the top of reservoir, with an opening f into the reservoir on one side of the depressed center, and an opening f out into the air on the other side. By this means the reservoir is thoroughly ventilated and kept free of gases, while no oil can escape through the vent by splashing and shaking. The reservoir is also provided with the usual filling-aperture and cap A A stop may be placed upon the guide to hold the crank from going too far to the right and dropping the wick too low.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. Ina lamp, the combination of the 0ilreservoir and vertical oil-chan1ber on the side thereof, and an oil-feeding cylinder secured to the vertical chamber and communicating therewith, with a wick-holder adjustable in the said cylinder and a crank and pitman operated in the chamber to regulate the elevation of the wick, as set forth.
2. In a lamp, the combination, with an ad- 3' ustable wick-holder, of a pivoted arm and pitinan swlveled together and bearing a pin connected with the Wick-holder, a crank connected to the pitman at the top, and a shaft, to which the crank is fixed,having an operating-crank with a pinching-screw upon it, and a segmental guide on which thepinchingscrew operates to hold the shaft in any desired position, as set forth.
3. In a lamp, the combination, With the oilreservoir, vertical oil-chamber, and oil-cylinder connected thereto, of a wick-holder in said cylinder, operating devices therefor in the oil-chamber, a shaft connected to said operating devices, and a box upon the top of the oil-reservoir, in which the shaft is held above the level of the oil, as set forth.
4. An oil-reservoir provided with. a vent consisting of an elongated chamber secured upon the top thereof, having a depressed center and an opening into the reservoir on one side of the depressed center and one into the air on the other side of said center, as set forth.
