To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, ALvA WORDEN, ot' the city of Ypsilanti, in the county ot' Washtenaw .and State oi' Michigan, have" invented a new and useful Machine for Gutting Leather Fly- Nets for Horses; and I do declare thatthe following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings,

The letter A represents the horizontal shaft upon whichthe knives are attached. c

Letter B represents two 'p.inions, which cause both shafts to revolve at the same time.

' Letter C represents theperpendicularstand arl or framework in which said shafts revove. a Y l Letter D represents the nut by which the knives are held stationary upon the shaft.

Letter E represents one ot' the washers or plates that separate the knives.

Letter F represents one ot' the knives detached from the cylinder, and letter G represents the box in which the `iournals of the shaft revolve.

The nature of my invention consists in ar' manning circular knives, separated by uniform plates orwashers, upon a horizontal shaft or cylinder, with spaces or breaks in the circular knives, so arranged that the space or break in each alternateknife will form direct rows or lines, so that when the knife-cylinder Ais made to 'revolve by means ol" a crank or pulley the edges of the knives working upon smooth surface or corresponding cylinder fitted with grooves. in which the edges of the knives work closely, uniform slits or incisions with breaks in each alternate row will be made ina strip ot' leather oi the desired width to form a net-work.

The machine' is constructed buv round or circular knives 'tted upon a small horizontal shaft with a round or circular plate of smaller size, also fitted upon the sanne shai't between the knives, with spaces ot uniform size and distances cut out ot' the edges ot the knives,

and when thc required number of knives are' iitted upon the shat't thc whole is irmly united, forming a tirm cylinder by means ot nutsand screws at the'end oi' the shzitt.

That I claim as 1n y invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The arrangement of circular knives upon a revolving cylinder so that passing a strip ot' leather under the cutting` cylinder nntorin incisions will be made in the leather with uniform breaks in each alternate rowof incisions, s that the leather when cut by the machine forms a diamond net-work.
