RUFUS M. VEEKS, OF SUNCOOK, NEWT HAMPSHIRE.
TRAvELi-:Rs sHAvlNe-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,465, dated November 5, 1889. Application filed June 17l 1889. Serial No. 314,644. (No model.)
To LZ-Z whom. z may concern:
Be it known that I, RUFUs M. VEEKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Suncook, in the county of Merrimac, in the State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Travelers Shaving-Case, of which the following is a specification.
For a person traveling it is very desirable to have a neat and convenient package for his shaving-tools; and my invention consists in an improved combination of several of the tools employed for shaving the beard in a convenient package for carrying and for use, as hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure l represents a longitudinal section of my improvement, showing the package in its closed condition for carrying. Fig. 2 represents an elevation of the same when arranged for use. Fig. 3 represents an elevation of the soap-holding spring and an inclosed cylindrical cake of soap. Fig. 4 represents an Fig. 5 represents a transverse section taken in the line o: a: of Fig. l.
In vthe accompanying dra-wings, A represents a hollow cylindrical shell, which may be made of any suitable material, thesai'd shell being preferably covered with leather B, divided into longitudinal portions, as a a f a. a, by means of the grooves h, made in the leather, andhavin g the port-i ons d coated with any approved razor-strop composition, thus making the outer surface of the shell A serve as a razor-strop. The soap-holder C is provided with a cylindrical ease D, having a closed end c and a collar cl, the end portions of the case D at each side of the collar d being adapted to fit reversibly Within the open ends of the shell A. Nithin the case D is placed the soap-holding spring E, which is preferably made with four springarms c c e e,
joined to a base f, the outer ends of the springarms e being provided with serrations f which are adapted to slightly penetrate the cake of soap F to hold the same firmly, so that as the soap is used up the cake can be brought forward from time to time in order to provide a continuous supply, Which will project for the proper distance from the open end of the case D. The soap F is placed within the arms e of the holding-spring, as shown in Fig. 3, and
when the holding-spring is passed into the cavity of the ease D the spring-arms e will be forced inward, soas to tightly clasp the soap.
The lather brush G is provided with a hol low' handle Il, provided exteriorly with the collar z, and also provided with a cover l, the cavityj being adapt-ed to hold a small razor or any desirable article of toilet use-as poniade, &c. The end portions ot' the handle H at each side of the collar 7lY are made to fit the cavity of the shell A reversibly, as shown in Figs. l and 2. In practical use the razor, which maybe held in the cavity j of the handle Il, can be removed therefrom and be sharpened upon the strop-faces a ot the shell A, and the brush G; and soap-holder C can be removed from the shell A, Fig. l., and inserted in a reverse position, as shown in Fig. 2, the shell A forming a convenient handle for both the brush G and the soap F, and after the operation of shaving has been completed the brush and soap can be returned to their proper places in the travelers package, as shown in Fig. 1, and the razor can be returned to the cavity j of the handle H, as before.
I claim as my invention- Al. In a travelers package of shaving-tools, the combination, with the holdin g-shell, of the reversible brush and the reversible soapholder, substantially as described.
2. In a travelers package ot shaving-tools, the combination, with the holdingshell provided With an out-er surface adapted tor sharpening a razor, of the reversible brush having a hollow handle and the reversible soapholder, substantially as described.
3. lil a travelers package of shaving-tools, the combination, with the holdingshell, of the reversible brush having a hollow handle, the reversible soap-holder case, and the soap-hold` ing spring, substantially as described.
RUFUS M. XVEEKS.
