ADVERTISING AND GIGAR LIGHTING GASTEN.
No. 414.342. Patented Nov. 5, 1889-l im* will Illll wvamtoz mbox/weft? UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
DELANOY E. TERRILL, OF COPENHAGEN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JUDSON F. HADOOOK, OF SAME PLAGE.
ADVERTISING AN D ClGAR-LIG HTING CASTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,342, dated November 5, 188?. Application filed June 26, 1889. Serial No. 3155600. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, DELANCY E. TERRILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Copenhagen, in the county of Lewis and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising and Cigar-Lighting Casters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make apd use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form 'a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cigar-lighting lamps.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction and in the novel combination, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, like letters of reference indicating like parts throughout the several views, and in which drawings-n Figure 1 is a perspective View ot an advertising-caster constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the easter with the lamp and cigar-lighter chamber removed.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the main frame of the easter. This frame is of metal, and may, it desired, be made in a single casting, or it may be made in sections and suitably brazed or otherwise secured together. This frame is preferably rectangular in form, though the size or form of the body of the caster may be varied as the taste of the manufacturer may suggest. A series of open spaces corresponding in size and number with the size and number of the vertical faces of the caster are provided, as indicated at B B, and through these openings it is designed to display business-cards or other advertisingmatter, the said advertisements being placed within suitable trays C, said trays being inserted within the'open lower end of the body of the caster-frame, the lower edges of the said trays when in position resting upon suitable inwardly-projecting shelves or ledges D, the inner edges of which shelves are provided with upwardly-extended flanges a, suitable flanges b being provided at the top, which flanges serve to securely retain the said trays 6o in position.
The top of the body of the caster consists of a metallic plate E, which is provided with a central opening E', adapted to receive the collar or neck E2 of the lamp-body F, said 65 lamp-body being inserted through the open lower end of the frame A. The inner face of the neck E2 is screw-threaded to receive the burner F', and the top has a flange c to engage the lamp-body. 7o
The bottom of the lamp-body Fis provided with an extension or stem F2, which stem is hollow and open at its lower end, and secured to the side of the stem is the spring G, the upper end of the spring being secured at a point near the upper end of the stem, and the free end of the spring, which terminates a short distance below the lower end of the stem, is provided with an extension or handle G, while upon its inner face, at a point adjacent 8o to its free end, the spring is provided with an extension or lug G2, for a purpose which will presently appear.
The base H of the caster is provided with a standard H', which is adapted to enter the 8 5 open lower end of the stem F2. A lug or projection H2 upon the standard limits the vertical movement of the parts, while the engagement of the lug G2 upon the free end of the spring G with the lower edge of the projec- 9o tion upon the standard serves to lock the parts together.
l I are metallic tubes or chambers within the body of the casterone upon each side the lamp-body-and are designed as receptacles 95 for alcohol or other inflammable liquid for use in lighting cigars. These tubes are passed through holes or openings in the upper plate of the caster, and when in place their upper ends project a slight distance above the uproo per surface of the plate, and they are held in place by the hanged caps or projections I',
secured to their upper ends, which flanges bear upon the upper face of the plate E, as shown.
It Will be seen that by this construction a very convenient form of cigar-lighting device is provided. The open spaces at the sides of the caster being utilized for advertising purposes, the lighters, being arranged uponropposite sides of the lamp, are convenient of 2. The combination, with the base and standard, of the lamp-body having a depending portion to receive said standard and adapted to be held thereon, the removable burner to said lamp, and the caster-body-inclosing the lamp-body and revolubly supported thereon below the burner, substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination, with the standard having a lug, of the lamp-body having a depending tube to receive the standard, and a spring carried by said body andhaving an inwardlyextending portion to engage the under side of said lug, and an extension Gr near'said lug, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony'whereof IafiXlnysignature in presence of two Witnesses.
