The trimming consists of a row of. stitches 00, formed onvthe fabric at the edge of the same, and a row of stitches y, formed some distance from the edge of the fabric, but connected thereto by a double row of intermeshed loops or festoons a and b, one of these rows of loops or being secured to the edge of the fabric by the row of stitches as, and the other row of loops 1) being incorporated With the outer row of stitchesy and being intermeshed with the row of loops at at a point between the two rows of stitches, as shown in the drawing.
In order that the trimming may lie along the edge of the fabric without overlapping the same, the row of stitches 00 whereby the row of loops or festoons a, is secured to the fabric is composed of overedge stitches, as shown, whereby the row of loops or may be tied to the edge ofthe fabric without "overlying the same on one side or the other. The trimming is preferably finished at the outer edge by an independent thread d, incorposame.
rated with the outer row of stitches y and forming a row of loops or festoons beyond the The threads at, b, and d may consist of cords or strands of any desired character, although they consist, preferably, of chains of stitches, such as shown in the patent of R. Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The Within-described trimming or border for fabrics, the same consisting of a row of stitches on the fabric, a row of stitches some distance beyond the edge of the fabric, and
two rows of loops or festoons, one "row being confined to the fabric by the row of stitches thereon and the other row being incorporated with the outer row of stitches, said rows of loops or festoons being intermeshed at a point between the two lines of stitches, substantially as specified.
2. The within-described trimming or border for fabrics, the same consisting of a row of stitches formed on the fabric, arow of stitches some distance beyond the edge of the fabric, two rows of intermeshed loops or festoons, one row confined to the fabric by the stitches thereon and the other row incorporated with the outer line of stitches, and a thread incorporated with the outer line of stitches only and forming loops or festoons beyond the same, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. v JOSEPH D. MORLEY.
