SAW-SWAG E.
i SPEIEICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 412,676, dated October 8, 1889.
i Apnlication filed April 13, 1889. Serial No. 307,076. (No model.)
To all whom it Hwy-concern):
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. SIIoNK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Vandalia, in the countyof Fayette and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Band-Saw Swages; and Ido declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains t0 make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication. i
Figure l of the drawings is a representationof the invention applied to the saw and is a perspective view. Figs. 2, 3,4, 5, 6, and 7 are detail views.
This invention relates to certain improvements in saw-swages more particularly designed for band-saws; and it consists of the combination of parts and their novel construction, as will more fully appear from the i following description.
In the 'embodiment of. my invention I employ a suitable support or standard A, let into a socket of the foot a, which in practice is bolted to the floor. This standard or support is odset, as at a', toward and slightly overhangs a bracket a2, cast upon said stan dard.
B B are two clamps vertically adjustable upon the standard or support A. The lower 4 one B is swiveled upon a screw-rod b, which is Worked or adj usted bya hand-Wheel c, resting or bearing upon the bracket a2, said screwrod passing through said bracket. In these clamps are grooves to receive the saw-blade. lThe upper clamp B is formed with a slight elliptical hub-like extension d', arranged within the plane of the inner sides of 'a proximate U-shaped slot b2 in the extreme upper end of the standard or support A, which will again presently be referred to; also, in the upper clamp B is the swaging-die C, which is so arranged as to be properly presented to the sawtooth to be operated upon, and is manipulated by a lever or handle C', carrying the saine, and limited in its movement to the left hand by a stop C2, projecting from clamp B.' To the lever or handle is also connected a pivoted rod c', carrying the saw-blade feeder c2,
which comprises a socketed arm c3, secured quired tooth up againstthe sWaging-dies. The
arm c3 has depending from one end a projection c5, and upon 'it is secured a horizontal plate c,which glides over the points of the sawblade teeth, assisting the lifting of the arm from one tooth to another, while the projection o5 aids in preventing the displacement of the arm or feeder. Stops c7 and o8 project from the clamp B to form a rest for rod -c and to limit the movement of the lever C. The action of the swage or die C is also aided by the opposite diagonally-disposed holdingscrew d and clamp-bar d', the latter having its lower end resting upon the back of the tooth at the point, and the screw d bearing upon the clamp-bar d.
ToA the opposite side of the implement is applied a cam-lever D, its cam D also being of proximately elliptical shape, and having in its circumference a spiral groove or channel dwhich receives and engages a small proj ection 0r stud d3 upon the standard A at one side of the slot b2. The journal 03.4 of the cam D bears in the upper clamp B', said journal passing into an aperture or passage in said cam and in the hub-like extension cl thereof, the inner side of said cam D bearing against said hub or extension, While its periphery bears against a yoke d5 of said standard. This contrivance, when the lever or handle D is turned, not only serves to effect the adjustment of the upper clamp B to the saw-blade, but also serves to clamp the tooth against an opposite set-screw to prevent the distorting or bending of the tooth during the operation of swaging.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
l. The combination, with the supportingstandard and the saw-blade clamps, of the die-actuating lever or handle carrying thefeed device, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the supportingstandard and the saw-blade clamps, of the lever or handle actuating the saw-tooth swag- ICO ing-die and the opposite diagonally-disposed clamp-bar and holding-screws, said bar resting upon the back of the tooth, and the screw bearing upon the clamp-bar, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with the supportingstandard and the saw-blade clamps, of the lever or handle actuating the saw-tooth swaging-die, the set or clamp screw bearing against one side of the saw-tooth, and the cam lever or handle whose cam is provided with a spiral groove or channel which receives a projection upon said supporting-standard, the journal of said cam bearing against the tooth in alignment with said clamp-screw, substantially as set forth.
4. The combination of the supporting-standard', the vertically-adjustable saw-clamps, the
lever carrying the t btlrswagng die and the .saw-feeding'deviceht -e opposite diagonallyl:presence of two witnesses.
