T. J. GAIN. BOTTLE STOPPER.

THOMAS J. GAIN, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.-
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 411,277, dated September 17, 1889.
Application filed June 30, 1889. Serial No. 314,176. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. CAIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, Ouyahoga county, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and usefulImprovement in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in means of corking and fastening corks or stoppers in bottles, whereby bottles may be quickly opened and closed and the corks or stoppers retained, and pressure 11 ecessary-to retain cork in bottle had. Iattain this obj eel by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a front view of the device; Fig. 2, a side View; Fig. 3, a View of the stoppercap; Fig. 4, a view-of the stopper.
Si milar letters refer to similar parts th roughout the several views.
Letter A represents the bail-wire; B, the stop-rod; D, the pressure-link; E, the stoppercap; F, the lug on stopper-cap G, the screw on stopper-cap; H, the stopper; 1, the recesses in bailwire; J, the horizontal top on the bailwire; K, the fasteners to neck-wire; L, the neck-wire, neclewire L being a wire around the neck of the bottle with a loop on each side of bottle and directly opposite each other.
Bail-wire A. is a wire bent in the shape of a bail with a horizontal top J on the center or upper part, with recesses I sufficient in depth to admit stop-rod B, and with fasteners K on neck-wire L. V
The stop-rod B is a rod extending from one side of the bail-wire to the other, passing through thelug F loosely, and attached to the lower part of the pressnre'link.
The pressure-link D is hinged or fastened center or upper part, by which it is hung loosely on stop-rod B.
The stopperII may be made out of any material suitable, with a screw in center to fit the screw on the stopper-cap.
In closing the bottle, by throwing the bailwire in an upright position the pressure-link is pressed down on the stopper-cap, the bailwire coming in contact with the stop-rod in a position so that it has a direct pressure in line with the center of the bottle and holding the bail-Wire in place until thrown back to open the, bottle.
That I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the bail-wire A, pivotally sec ured to the neck of the bottle, the pressure-link I), pivotally secured to the bail-wire, the stop-rod B, secured to the pressure-link and extended to engage the arms of the bailwire, the latter being offset with respect to the stop-rod, and the stopper for closing the mouth of the bottle, secured to the pressurelink, substantially as and for. the purpose set forth.
THOMAS J. CAIN.
