MOSQUITO-NET FRAME AND SHAM-PILLOW HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 411,073, dated September 1'7, 1889.

To all whom it may concern: a

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM TENNIsON, of Mount Vernon, in the county of Posey and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Mosquito-Net Frame and Sham- PilloW Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to an improvement in mosquito-net frame and sham-pillow holders, and has for its object to provide a simple, effective, cheap, and durable device capable of attachment to any bed, and which may be adjusted to any desired length'or width, and also wherein braces will not be needed to sustain the frame in a horizontal position, and, further, to provide for the attachment of a sham pillow which, when the bed is made and the device folded down, will be brought at an upright position upon the bolster.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed 'out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding-parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a partial side elevation of abed having my device applied, and illustrating in positive lines the frame as folded down and in dotted lines as in position for use with a netting. Fig. 2 is a plan View illustrating the frame as in a horizontal position over the bed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device; and Fig. 4 is a partial side elevation of the device, illustrating the net-carrying frame as in horizontal position.

In carrying out the invention I will describe the same as being constructed, preferably, of wire in three sections-namely, a section 10, adapted for attachment to the bed, and the two body-

11 and 12, the latter being adapted to slide upon the former.

The section 10 consists of a stout wire rod bent upon itself to form the body or transverse bar 13, the eyes 14 at the extremity of said bar, and the standards 15, extending downward at right angles to the body, the extremities of which standards are bent at right angles to a horizontal position, as best shown at 16 in Figs. 1 and 3.

The section 10 above described is, as aforesaid, aglapted for attachment to the head board, or, preferably, the posts or bed-rail, and to this end the horizontal extremities 16 are made to enter suitable apertures 17 produced in the front of the headpost, one aperture at each side. The bar 13 is ordinarily held in a horizontal position by the hook 18, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, which hooks embrace the said bar and are preferably fixed in the top of the head-board, two hooks being ordinarily employed. The section 11 is also formed from a stout wire bent upon itself to form the outer or forward transverse bar 19 and the parallel sides 20. The rear extremities of the sides 20 are extended downward to produce the inclined portion 21 and horizontally outward and downward to form the hooks 22. The side pieces of the section 11 are ordinarily braced and strengthened by a transverse bar 23, which bar may be dispensed with, but when used is attached to the side, preferably near to the aforesaid inclined portion 21.

The section 12 also consists of a stout wire bent upon itself to form the cross-bar 24, and

the parallel side pieces or arms 25, which arms are provided at their extremitywith eyes 26, the said eyes being adapted to embrace the side bars of the section 11, as best shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

Strips of webbing, elastic, or other suitableand equivalent material 27 are attached at one end to the bar 19 of the section 11, and preferably at their other ends to the cross-bar 13 of the fixed section 10; but if it is found more desirable in practice the said strips 27 may be secured at their inner ends to the bracebar 23 of the section 11 if said bar is employed- In attaching the

Thus when the frame has assumed the position above stated it will be partially concealed by the sham pillow 28, the said pillow having its front face presented to view and appearing to lightly rest upon the bolster. The mosquitO-nettin g, which is in front over the frame, covers the bolster and sham pillow, effectually preventing the same from becoming soiled by the flies.

lVhen the frame is to be lifted to a horizontal position over the bed, the pillow, being fixed to the strips 27, is carried upward with the frame, and the section 11 is carried in direction of the head of the bed to such an extent as that the upper face of the inclined portion 21 of the said section 11 will engage the end face of the rear wall of the several loops or eyes let, the end face of the said inclined portion being made to rest upon the upper face of the outer wall of the aforesaid loops or eyes 14, as illustrated in Fig. 2, and in detail in Fig. l. The section 12 is then drawn out toward the foot of the bed, as shown in Fig. 2, over which the mosquitoaietting is placed and covers the entire bed.

hen it is desired to let down the frame, the sham pillow 011 the bolster-section 12 is shoved toward the head of the bed and the frame slightly raised and drawn back until the hooks 22 engage the eyes ll, which will let all down, and the pillows will rest on the bolster, as shown in Fig. 1.

It will thus be observed that through the medium of the peculiar formation of the inner end of frame-section 11 and the combination of said frame-section with the fixed section 10 no braces are required to extend the frame in a horizontal position, and that the said frame may be expeditiously and conveniently manipulated by the most inexperienced person.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination, with a fixed section 10, consisting of cross-bar 13, standards 15,and eyes 14, produced at the intersection of the cross-bar and standards, of the frame-section 11 and the slide-frame section 12, the former having an inclined portion 21 and hooks 22, adapted to enter the eyes 14: of the said section 10, the frame-section 1.1 havinga cross-bar 19 at its outer end, and the section 12 having its side arms looped at their inner ends around the side arms of section 11 and bearing in advance of said looped ends on the cross-bar 19, all combined to operate substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. The improved mosquito-net frame and sham-pillow holder,comprising a fixed section 10, consisting of a cross-bar 13, standards 15, and eyes let, produced at the intersection of said cross-bar and standards, a body-frame 11, having an inclined portion 21 formed in the side bars near the extremity, hooks 22, produced at the extremity of said side bars, strips 27, extending longitudinal of the said section 11, and a second body-see tion 12, connecting with and sliding upon the first body-section, as described, whereby the device may be adjusted to and held in horizontal position and extended to form a netholder, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

3. The combination, with a fixed section 10, consisting of a cross-bar 13, standards 15, and the eyes it, formed at the intersection of the standards and cross-bar, of the bodyframe 11., having an inclined portion 21 produced upon side bars near their extremities, hooks 22, formed in said side bars at the extremities, brace-bar 23, strips 27, extending longitudinally of the said section 11, a sham pillow secured upon said strips, and a second body-section 12, connected with and adapted to slide upon the first body-section, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

i. In a combined sham-holder and net-frame, the combination, with the eyes 14: and the frame 11, havinghooks 22 engaging said eyes and movable in a longitudinal direction in said eyes, whereby the section 11, when adjusted to horizontal position, may be held therein, of the frame 12, connected with and sliding along the frame ll, whereby the device, when adjusted to horizontal position, may be extended,substantially as and for the purposes specified.
