BACK-BAND HOOK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,998, dated September 10, 1889.

Application filed March 23, 1889.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANCIS A. YOST, of Paducah, in the county of McOracken and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and Improved Back-Band Hook, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to back-band hooks of the class employed in connection with chain traces, the object of the invention being to provide a hook which will act to hold the chain, and upon which the chain may be readily adjusted. To the end named the invention consists of the hook, to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a face view of my improved back-band hook. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same, taken on line 00 a; of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a face view of a modified construction, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 'g y of Fig. 3.

In the drawings, 10 represents a plate that is arranged for connection with a back-band.

To this plate there is rigidly connected an arm 11, which extends outward from the upper portion of the plate and then inward to connectwith the lower corners of the plate, as clearly shown, the main arm 11 being bifur-. cated. From the main body of the arm 11 Serial No. 804,465. (No model.)

In the construction illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 I arrange the plate 10 so that it may be riveted to the back-band A; but in the construction shown in Figs. 8 and 4 I form the plate with an upper slot to, below which there is a cross-bar 13, and near the lower edge of the plate I form

14, 15, and 16, and to hold the back-band in place I pass it behind the upper portion of the plate in front of the cross-bar 13, to the rear of the inwardly-bent sides 17 of the plate 10, in advance of the cross-bar 14, and about the crossbar 16, tucking the end of the back-band in behind the cross-bar 15. In this way I provide for an adjustment of the hook to such a position as maybe desired.

The chain which the hook is designed to support and hold is adjusted as represented in the drawings, the tongue 12 entering the central chainlink.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent- A back-band hook consisting of the plate 10, provided with the outwardly and upwardly curved and bifurcated arm 11, forming tracesupporting loops, the said arm having its upper end secured to the upper part of the plate and provided with the tongue 12, projecting downwardly from the body of the arm, substantially as herein shown and described.
