BOILER STAND. No. 410.947. Patented Sept. 10,1889.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB VOSBURGH, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
BOILER-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,947, dated September 10, 1889.
Application filed January 14, 1889. Serial No. 296,375. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAG-OB VOSBURGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at'the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boiler-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in stands for supporting boilers for ranges and stoves in kitchens and elsewhere for family uses;.and the objects of my invention are, first, to provide a metallic ring wit-h flange and slots, upon which the boiler rests, and, sec- 0nd, to provide legs so made that their tops penetrate the slots of said ring and at or near their centers cross and interlock with each other, forming a boiler-stand without the use of screws or other fastenings. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- I Figure 1 is a side elevation of my boilerstand as awhole when the parts are adj ust'ed to each other. Fig. 2 is a top view showing the metallic ring. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3 3, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line 4 4, Fig. 2.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The metallic ring A is provided with a flange a, of suflicient width to securely hold the boiler in its seat, and with three depressions a formed with oblong slots a the depressions being equidistant from each other and of sufficient size to admit the heads I) of the legs B,which in adjusting pass through such slots and rest in said depressions, thus securely locking the legs to the metallic ring. The legs are of metal, and, as indicated, are made each with a hook b on the under side and a projection 19 on the upper side, upon which, when adjusted, the hook rests. The legs are so formed as to cross each other, as shown in Fig. 1, at the point C, and when the hook of each leg forming the cluster rests upon its fellow in front of it, as shown in Fig. 1, the weight of the boiler only tends to make the stand more firm, and there can be no derangement or letting down on any of its parts until the weight has been removed. The three legs well spread out prevent any lateral play. The legs all being cast from the same pattern insures exactness in all their parts and the holding of the ring perfectly level. The legs are interchangeable and interlocked, so that if one is lost or damaged it can readily be replaced.
, I prefer to use malleable iron for the legs of said stand because of its toughness; but cast-iron may be used both for the ring and legs, if desired. The legs, as I construct them, are about twenty-three inches long, but may be made longer or shorter, as may be desired. Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A metallic boiler-stand consisting of a ring A and three crossed and interlocked legs B, secured to the ring, substantially as described.
2.-The combination of a metallic ring containing three slots with the metallic legs penetrating said slots and crossing each other, and so constructed as to interlock with said ring at their tops and with each other at the point of their crossing, thus forming a stand without the use of screws or other fastenings, substantially as set forth.
3. A boilerstand leg B, constructed with a head 1), a hook Z1 at the under side, and a projection b at the upper side, substantially as described.
4. The combination of the ring A, having depressions a and oblong slots a and the crossed and interlocked legs B, having oblong heads I) by which the legs are secured to the ring, substantially as described.
5. A boiler-stand consisting of the ring A, formed with a flange a, depressions a and slots of, and the legs B, formed with hooks b projections b and heads I), substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JACOB VOSBURGI-I.
