UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
AUGUST KNPFER, OF DORNDORF, NEAR DORNBURG, GERMANY.
DRILL-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,692, dated September 10, 1889. Application filed August 8, 1888. Serial No. 282,233. (N0 model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUST KNPFER, a Subj ect of the Grand Duke of SaXe-Veimar, and residing at Dorndorf, near Dornburg, in the State of SaXeWVeimar, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drill-Machines, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to the manner of fastening the pole to drilling or sowing machines.
In order to make my invention more clear, I refer to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters denote similar parts throughout the diiferent figures.
Figure l, Sheet I, is a top view of my improved manner of fastening the pole to drillmachines. Fig. 2 is an under view of the locking mechanisms for the same. Fig. Sis a Vertical section through the line a Fig. l. Fig. v-l is a top view, on a larger scale, of the locking mechanism. Figs. 5, 6, and 7, Sheet Il, show a modification of the construction.
The construction is as follows: The hind part of the machine is fastened to fore partby the bar o, hinged to the same by the kingbolt c. The king-bolt c projects through the cross-beam m, and to this cross-beam m is the fifth-wheel f fastened. The pole n is hinged to the king-bolt c and hears with the rollers r r on the iifth-wheel f.
In order to fasten the pole n fast when going round sharp corners or on the road, I provide a catch o under the iron frame e, in which the pole n is held. The catch o, guided in the guides s s, is pressed by the spring t into the slot u in fifth-Wheel f. The catch o is thrown outof gearby the segmentp catching on the pin p, the slot in the segment p being eccentric to the center of revolution. The segment is operated by hand by means of the handles l) b.
Figs. 5, 6, and 7, Sheet II, shovx7 a modified construction,in which thepole n may be turned round the bolt w in a vertical direction. All other parts of the construction are the very same and work in the same manner.
Having now fully described my invention, what I desire to claim, and secure by Letters Patent in the United States, is
In drill-machines, the combination of the frame e, pivoted at w to the king-bolt c, and having fixed to it the bar n, a catch o, and spring with the fifth-Wheel f, having a slot u, and with the sector p', having handles l), substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my nam e to this specication in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
AUGUST KNUPFER.
