(No Model.) G. W. NASH.
I TOY CANNON. No. 410,433. Patented Sept. 3, 1889.
Wr'rflsssas: IN N N. PEIERS. Phawmnugn her. wllhi nnnnnnn c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE IV. NASH, OF CHELSEA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO E. N. HUNT, OF READING, MASSACHUSETTS.
TOY CANN/ON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0.4.1O,433, dated September 3, 1889. Application filed January 22, 1889. Serial No. 297,118. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE WV. NASH, of Chelsea, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Cannon, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved toy cannon adapted to hold firecrackers while the same are being exploded; and it consists in the construction which I will now proceed to describe and claim.
Of the accompanying drawings, &c., Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of my improved toy cannon. Fig. 2 represents a rear view of the same, the breech-block being swung aside.
The same letters of reference designate the same parts or features in all the accompany.- ing drawings.
In the drawings, or represents the barrel, on the rear end of which is a downwardly-projecting lug or flange 1), formed at right angles with the barrel, the rear surface of said flange and the rear end of the barrel being flush with each other.
0 represents the breech block and trail formed in a single piece, which has a flat face formed to bear closely against the rear end of the barrel and the rear surface of the flange b, said surface being ground smooth and even so that when held closely together they make a tight joint. The breech-block and trail is pivotally connected to the flange b by a screw (Z, having a head d, which bears against the front side of the flange. Said screw is arranged at such a distance below the barrel that the breech-block, when turned to the position shown, in Fig. 2, will uncover the barrel and permit the insertion of a firecracker in the rear end thereof. A groove 9 is, formed in the end of the barrel to accommodate the fuse of the fire-cracker, said fuse passing through the groove and projecting outside the barrel.
A stop-pin h is attached to the rear end of so that it screw also enables the breech-block to be adjusted to compensate for Wear of the reciprocal bearing-surfaces of the breech-block and barrel.
The barrel is provided with longitudinal flanges 1', through which passes an axle j, hav- 6o ing wheels 70 k.
I claim In an improved toy cannon, the combina tion, with the barrel provided with a vent at its rear end a downwardly-proand having jecting flange which is flush with the rear end of the barrel, of a breech-block and trail formed in close bearing on said flange and 011 the rear end of the barrel, and the screw or pivot connecting the breech-block and trail to the flange at a point below the barrel, said pivot being parallel with the barrel, whereby the breech-block and trail is permitted to move in a lateral direction or at right angles to the barrel, substantially as shown and described.
In testimonywhereof I have signed my nam e to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 11th day of January,
GEORGE W. NASII. \Vitnesscs:
