Description

(No Model.)
' H. K. HOUSE. SEWING MACHINE TREADLE.
Patented A "u E A E .vitiorney UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I-IIRAM K. HOUSE, OF NORWALK, OHIO.
SEWING-MACHINE TREADLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,099, dated August 27, 1889.
Application filed April 3, 1889. Serial No. 305,813. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HIRAM K. HOUSE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Norwalk, in the county of Huron and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Machine Treadles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention pertains to an improvement in sewing-machine treadles; and it consists in the peculiar construction, combination, and arrangement of the parts, substantially as hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings,Figure 1 is a view showing the treadle as applied to a sewing-machine, and Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views thereof. Fig. 4 is also a detail View of one of the footplate arms.
My improvementin sewing-machine treadles is designed to facilitate the oscillating movement thereof, and thus to lessen the force required to operate it; and in accomplishing this purpose I cast integral with its foot-plate A arms B, which project upwardly and obliquely therefrom.
Foot-plate A may be constructed of cast metalornamented it may be-or cast in any ordinary manner to adapt its weight to its intended purpose. It is provided with arm at,
having integral therewith vertically-disposed lug b, for attachment thereto of pitlnan c, as
shown, which connects with the driving-wheel of the machine. I
The arms B, which are inclined outward from foot-plate A, are apertured or socketed, as shown, for reception of hangers D, which latter, having shoulder e, are inserted therein. The hangers, which are similar in construction, are also provided at their upper ends with a square orifice for reception of the square cross-bar a. Bar 6' has its hearings in the vertical walls of the sewing-machine,
and the hangers are rigidly secured in position thereon by means of the screws ff.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- I The sewing-machine treadle consisting of the foot-plate having the outwardly-inclined arms and the hangers held upon the cross-bar of the sewing-machine frame, and having inwardly-projecting lower ends which engage apertures in the upper or outer ends of said arms, said foot-plate having at one corner a fixed arm provided with a vertical lug, to which is connected the sewing-machine pitinan, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
