Description

R. GIDLEY. EcCEN-Tmc POW-Ens.
rNo.v194,`669.` Patented' Aug. 28,1877.
.IEIIHILP lill? UNITED --STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT GIDLEY, OF POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN ECCENTRIC POWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,669, dated August 28, 1877 application filed September 9, 1875.
. To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT GIDLEY, of the city of Poughkeepsie, county of Dutchess, and State of New York, have invented certain new useful Improvements in Eccentric Powers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, ret'- erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, and in which- Figures 1 and 2 are side views of my improved mechanical movement, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters. l
rIhis invention relates to acertain improvement in mechanical movements; and it consists ot' mechanism substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
ln the annexed drawing, A refers to a crank of the shaft B, bearing in the bar B'. The crank A is provided with a diagonal slot, C, which receives the crankpin c of the arm D ot the pitman E. The pitman E is suitably supported in boxes of the usual construction.
It will be observed that, when the parts are in motion and in a line with each other, or, in other words, when the dead-center is reached, the crank-pin c of the pitman-arm D will be about midway of, and ascendingthe incline of, the diagonal slot O, which it will continue to do until it reaches the upper extremity of the said slot, taking the pitman-arm Dpast the dead-center, and allowing the parts to move with freedom.
F F are stops pivoted to the rear side of a bar, B', and placed one upon either side of the crank A, and projecting, one above and the other below the bar B'. These stops are beveled upon their faces, and extend beyond the front side ot' the bar B', to prevent the reverse movement of the crank.
G G are springs fastened to, and having their free ends pressing or bearing against the stops F F, to allow the latter to yield to the crank as` it moves past the same, and cause them to return to their original position after the passage of the crank.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The spring-stops F F G G, pivoted to the bar B', within which'bears the shaft, having the crank A, to prevent the reverse movement of the crank, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
.In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 6th day of September, 1875.
' ROBERT. GIDLEY.
