Description

-(No Model.)
N. J. ENGLER.
STOVE.
Patented July 2 XII/I I ATTORNEY N. PETERS. hflovLilhngnpher. wuhin m. 0.1;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFF CE.
NICHOLAS J. ENGLER, OF IPjSlVIOH, DAKOTA TERRITORY.
STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letteis Patent No. 406,204, dated July 2, 1889.
Application filed February 28, 18%39. Serial No. 301,499. (No model.)
and Improved Stove, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to stoves for burning hay, straw, or other light fuel; and its object;
is to provide a new and improved stove which 1 is simple and durable in construction, very effective in operation, and prevents the smok-, ing and pufling out of fire into the room,1 which so frequently occurs at certain inter-5 vals in stoves of this class that are now in number of apertures K, leading to the inteuse.
The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be hereinafter described, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying draw1ngs,form1ng a part of this specification,- n which s1m1lar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of the lmprovement. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the shell on the line a: p0 of Fig. 1, and Fig.
' A an inverted-cone-shaped bottom O, having its apex a short distance above the base B, as is plainly shown in Fig. 1. The shell A, below the top edge of the cone-shaped bottom O, is provided with a number of apertures D, through which air is admitted and heat allowed to escape, whereby the lower portion of the stove is prevented from being overheated.
On the outside of the cylindrical shell A are secured suitable handles E for moving the shell about when filling or emptying it, and the upper end of the shell is closed by a cover F, secured air-tight to the shell, forming part of the same. From the shell'A, directly above the upper edge of the bottom 0, leads a stovepipe G, which passes into a heater or cookingstove H, of any approved construction, and used for cooking, baking, or other purposes.
In the rear end of the heater or cooking- Q stove H is arranged a transverse partition H,
containing an aperture H adapted to be opened or closed by a damper 1-1 held to slide transversely on the partition 11, and manipulated by suitable means from the outside.
; The aperture H is preferably located directly opposite the stove-pipe G, andit opens into a chamber H formed at the rear end of the heater or stove H, and connected at its top with the usual chi mney-pipe H provided with. a damper I.
Inside of the shell A are arranged one, two, or more pipes J, extending vertically, open at their lower ends, and each provided with a rior of the shell A. The upper ends of the l Into one of the pipes J or the pipe L leads a short pipe J formed in the shell A, and connected by a pipe N with the chimney-pipe H above the damper I, as is plainly shown in Fig. 1.
The usual dampers O' are located in the shell A directly above the upper edge of the bottom O and below the lower ends of the pipes J, as shown in Fig. 1. On the under side of the cone-shaped bottom 0 are arranged convenient handles O, for placing the bottom in the shell or removing it from the same.
The operation is as follows: The shell A- is with its contents is set on the base 13, the
pipe G projecting into the stove or heater H and the pipe N connecting the pipes J and L with the chimney-pipe H The straw, hay, or other light fuel in the shell A is now ignited, and the heat and smoke arising from the burning fuel pass through the pipe G into the heater or stove H. The latter is then heated and may be utilized for cooking or baking purposes in the usual manner.
The smoke and gases from the heater II can pass through the aperture II into the chamber 11*, and from the latter through the chimney-pipe H to the outside. The steam or vapor generated from the fuel inside of the shell A passes into the pipes J, J, and L,
through the pipe J into the pipe N, and from the latter into the chimney-pipe H As the steam or vapor of the fuel is drawn oif in the manner above described, the cause of smoking and pulling out of fire into the room is removed, and consequently the fuel burns very evenly on the cone-shaped bottom 0 in the shell A.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as rew and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a stove of the class described, the combination, with a shell having a cone-shaped bottom and a smoke-pipe leading from the said bottom, of perforated pipes held in the said shell and connecting with the chimney-pipe, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a stove of the class described, the combination, with a shell provided with a heater or cooking-stove having a chimney-pipe, and also provided with a cone-shaped bottom, of a smoke -pipe leading from the said shell above the said bottom into the heater or cooking-stove, and perforated pipes held in the said shell and connecting with the chimneypipe of the said heater or stove, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a stove of the class described, the combination, with a heater or cooking-stove provided with a chimney-pipe, a base, and a shell resting on the said base and provided near its bottom with apertures, of a cone-shaped bottom suspended in the said shell above the said apertures, a smoke-pipe leading from the said shell above the said cone-shaped bottom into the heater or cooking-stove, and perforated pipes held in the said shell and connected with the chimney-pipe of the heater or cooking-stove at their upper ends, substantially as shown and described.
4. I11 a stove of the class described, the combination, with a heater or cooking-stove provided with a chimney-pipe, a base, and a shell resting on the said base and provided near its bottom with apertures, of a cone-shaped bottom suspended in the said sh ell above the said apertures, a smoke-pipe leading from the said shell above the said cone-shaped bottom into the heater or cooking-stove, perforated pipes held in the said shell and connected at their upper ends with the chimney pipe of the heater or cooking-stove, and dampers held on the said shell above the said cone-shaped bottom, substantially as shown and described.
5. In a stove of the class described, a heater or cooking-stove provided with a transverse partition having an aperture, a damper held in the said transverse partition to open or close said aperture, and a chimney-pipe held on the said heater or cooking-stove and into which discharges said opening, in combination with a base held in front of the said heater, a shell closed at the top and resting with its open bottom on the said base, a cone-shaped bottom suspended in the lower end of the said shell, a smoke-pipe leading from the said shell above the said bottom into the said heater, and perforated pipes extending vertically in the said shell connected with said chimneypipe, substantially as shown and described.
6. In a stove of the class described, a heater or cooking-stove provided with a transverse partition having an aperture, a damper held in the said transverse partition to open or close said aperture, and a chimney-pipe held on the said heater or cooking-stove and into which discharges said aperture, in. combination with a base held in front of the said heater, a shell closed at the top and resting with the open bottom on the said base, a coneshaped bottom suspended in the lower end of the said shell, a smoke-pipe leading from the said shell above the said bottom into the said heater, perforated pipes extending vertically in the said shell connected with said chimneypipe, and dampers held in the said shell above the said bottom, substantially as shown and described.
