0. O. STOVER. WELL PUMPING RIG.
No. 404,744. Patented June 4, 1889 5 wenz'arl MCJJZ'ZMW N. PETERS, Fhntolvflvo ra her, Washinglon. 0.0.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OOCHRAN C. STOVER, OF BRADFORD, PENNSYLVANIA.
WELL PUMPING RIG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 404,744, dated June 4, 1889.
Application filed October 31, 1888. Serial No, 289,632. (No model.) I
T0 at whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, OocHRAN O. STovER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bradford, in the county of lWIcKean and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Well Pumping Rigs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a rig employed in pumping oil or Artesian wells and its object is the production of a rig wherein the removal (in devices of this class) of the rocking beam and its pendulum, to the former of which is attached a radial beam, to which the polishrod is connected, is not necessary in order to connect the polish-rod to its operating devices.
My invention consists in features of novelty to be hereinafter described, and then particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure I is a perspective view of a well pumping rig embodying my invention. Fig. II is a view in elevation showing the pivoted beam swung to one side of the main beam. Fig. III is a sectional view showing the bolts for connecting the pivoted beam and main beam together.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the derrick, and 2 its sill or platform.
3 represents a crank, which may be operated by any suitable device, as a band-wheel or Windlass, and which is provided with pins or bolts 4,for shortening the length of stroke of pitman 5, from either of which pins it may be operated when they occupy its slot 6.
7 is the rocking beam, which is pivoted to the brackets 8 of uprights or standards 9. Extending downwardly from the rocking beam isits pendulum 10, to which is connected the pitman 5. I find in practice that this pendulum should be from seven to seventeen feet in length, according to the depth of the well, as the advantage is gained that the connecting-rods of the various wells are given a long stroke or a faster motion, which forces sucker-rods, is connected, is shorter than it has heretofore been made in order to adapt it to my improvement.
13 is a short auxiliary beam, pivoted at 14 at one end of the beam 11, and may be made of any suitable material, preferably of hard wood. By so pivoting the auxiliary beam it may be swung around against the rocking beam or out of the way, which gives sufficient room to pull sucker-rod or tubing, whereas the original beam, pendulum, &c., as ordinarily employed, have to be removed in order to do this.
For securing the auxiliary beam rigidly to the beam 11 a removable bolt 15 is passed through them, which may be secured by means of a nut.
Connecting-rods, through the medium of which and other devices any number of wells may be connected together, are shown and described by me in my application, Serial No. 27 7,047, filed June 14, 1888.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The combination of a pump-beam with a laterally-movable beam pivoted to the pump-beam, and to which the polish-rod of a well may be connected, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the pump-beam l1, laterally-movable beam 13, having pivotal connection therewith at one end by means of bolt 14, and a removable bolt 15, substantially as shown and described.
