SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 404,632, dated June 4, 1889.
Application filed March 2, 1889. Serial No. 301,761. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY E. KELLEY, of Niagara Falls, in the county of Niagara, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Swivels, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of this invention is to simplify and cheapen the manufacture of swivels on snap-hooks, chain-couplings, and analogous articles; and to that end my invention consists in the combination, with the headed member of the swivel, of the sleeved member composed of malleable metal, and having its sleeve split longitudinally and folded around the neck of the headed member, as hereinafter more fully explained, and specifically set forth in the claim.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1' is a side view of a snap-hook provided with the sleeved member of the swivel in its detached condition. Fig. 2 shows the same coupled to the headed member of the swivel. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line 00 r, Fig. 1. shows the headed member of the swivel formed -on the snap-hook and coupled to the sleeved member on a chain-link. Fig. 5 is a detached side view of the sleeved member adapted for attachment to the end of a rope. Fig. 6 is a transverse section on line 3 y, Fig. 5. Fig. 7 is a transverse section showing the same at tached to a rope, and Fig. 8 is a detached perspective view of the said sleeved member formed on the end of a chain-link.

A represents the headed member of the swivel, b denoting the head of said member, and b the usual neck back of said head. B represents the sleeved member of the swivel. The latter member may be formed either on the shank of a snap-hook C, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, or on any other analogous .article designed to be swiveled, the headed member being obviously formed on Fig. l

Said spur piercing the rope r, as ill ustrated in Fig. 7 otthe drawings, serves to effectually retain the rope in the sleeve.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a swivel, the combination, with the headed member, of the sleeved member formed with the yoke a, semi-cylindrical sleeve portion 6 on the ends of said yoke and axially in line with the article to which it is attached,
