UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. SMITH, OF BUTTE CITY, MONTANA TERRITORY.
PIANO LAM P-BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 404,570, dated June 4, 1889. Application filed July 17, 1888. Sen'al No. 280,183. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. SMITH, of Butte City, in the county of Silyer Bow and Territory of Montana, have invented a new and Improved Piano Lamp-Bracket, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. I
This invention relates to a lamp-bracket to be secured to an upright piano, and has for its object to provide a bracket for this purpose which 111: ybe conveniently and readily adjusted.
The invention consists in a piano lampbracket, constructed and arranged as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a View of the invention secured to a piano. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a modification thereof. 1
In the construction of the invention a suitably-formed plate 1 is provided, as here shown, formed with arms 2, secured to an upright piano 3 at its back by means of screws 4, and having an arm 5 projecting beyond the end of the piano, with a socket 6, in which is mounted a pivot-pin 7 projecting from a horizontal rod 8, extending through a second socket 9, which rests upon socket 6 and turns with rod 8. The latter is of sufficient length to project past the end of piano 3 and in front of the latter, and is provided with a vertical sleeve 10, through which projects a vertical rod 11, adjustably held therein by means of set-screw 12.
The lower end of rod 11 has secured thereto by an elbow-joint 13 a horizontal rod 14, having at its end a socket 15, in which is secured by a nut 16 the shank of a stand 17, upon which may be placed a lamp. By means of a bracket constructed as herein described the rod 8, with rod 11, rod 14, and lamp-stand 17 may be swung back out of the way when not required for use, or moved into position to bring lamp-stand 17 at one end of the keyboard, as shown. By means of set-screw 12 and vertically-movable rod 11 the lamp-stand may be raised or lowered above the key-board horizontal arm 8 with base-plate 1. The arm 5'of the latter is, instead of socket 6, formed with a ring 18, through which projects arm 8, held rigidly therein instead of being pivoted.
In lieu of employing the bracket with a lamp, it may be constructed to serve asa gaslight bracket.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A lamp-bracket for pianos, comprising an 6 5 apertured base-plate provided with an arm, a horizontal arm secured to the arm of the baseplate, a sleeve on the said horizontal arm, an elbow-lever adjustably secured in the sleeve,
and a lamp-stand secured to the horizontal member of the elbow-arm, substantially as described.
2. A lamp-bracket for pianos, comprising a four-armed base-plate having three of its arms apertured, a horizontal arm pivoted to one of the arms of the base-plate, a sleeve on the horizontal arm, a vertical arm adj ustably secured in the sleeve and provided with a horizontally-projecting member, and a lampstand on the said horizontal member, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. A lamp-bracket consisting of base-plate 1, with arm 5, socket 6, horizontal rod 8, with socket 9, secured to socket 6 by pivot-pin 7 and having vertical sleeve 10, with set-screw 12 and vertical rod 11, held in sleeve 10 by set-screw 12, and having horizontal arm 14, with vertical socket 15, and lamp-standard 17, substantially as described.
WILLIAM A. SMITH.
