SOAP-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 403,623, dated May 21, 1889.

Application filed November 10, 1888. Serial No. 290,455. (No model.)

T0 all whom it may concern:

` Be it known that I, LE GRAND TERRY, of Horseheads, in the county of Chemung and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap-Holders and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improvement in soap-holders.

The object is to provide a holder of such construction that it may be easily cleaned and of such arrangement of parts that the soap wet from use will be held out of contact wit-h the draining water, which latter is carried off into an opening at the lowest point in the sloping' bottom of the holder.

Vith this end in View my invention con sists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of my preferred form of soapholder. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view. Fig. 3 is a plan view with the front piece removed, and Fig. a is a view of said front piece.

A represents a back or bracket plate, and integral with its lower edge the sloping bottom B is formed. This bottom is corrugated or provided with several ribs, C, extending from the back down to the lower edge of the bottom, forming depressions D between and outside of them, all of which lead into a single elongated slot, E, extending along the lowest portion of the bottom nearly the entire length of the holder. This bottom may be of any shape, and preferably the slot E is formed by cutting away the lower edge of the bottom slightly. A rim, F, extends from the ends of the back A entirely around the bottom, inclosing the slot E and forming one of its sides.

The device is held by means of nails or screws c, extending through holes in the back A, and the soap rests on ribs C, the water drained off running down the depressions D into the slot E along the lowest edge of the sloping bottom.

Of course the holders may be made in various shapes and sizes to suit the market g but the form illustrated is the one generally preferred. The .front section, G, of the rim, or that portion thereof constituting the outer wall of the slot E, is removably secured in position. The ends f of this front piece are beveled and adapted to rest against seats g, which prevent the front from being pushed outward, lugs 7L, back of said seats, holding the front piece against its seats and completing the groove in which the beveled ends slide. Shoulders e', formed by a portion of the bottom projecting across the lower ends of the grooves, prevent the front from sliding through the grooves too far, and the notches j in this front piece allow the latter to extend down until its lower edge is flush with the under side of the bottom. The opening II in the loose front is designed to receive letters, a name, or for advertisement. By removing this front piece it is seen that the holder may be readily cleaned.

It is evident that slight changes-such as casting lugs on inside of front at the bottom of the holder to receive legs on the front piece-might be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence I do not wish to limit myself to the eX- aet construction herein set forth; but,

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A soap-holder having a sloping bottom with ribs and depressions therein and a rim around the bottom, said rim having a removable portion, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination, with a sloping bottom having ribs and depressions therein and a slot in its lowest edge, of a rim around the edge of the bottom and a removable front piece adapted to form one side of the slot, substantially as set forth.
