INSECT-DESTROYING SYRINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 401,622, dated April 16, 1889.
Application filed February 6, 1889.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK L. ZITSCHKE, of NewYork, in the county and State of New York, a citizen of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insect-Destroying Syringes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved syringe for ejecting an insect-destroying so lution in a quick and convenient manner for the purpose of killing roaches and other vermin 5 and the invention consists of a syringe attached to a sheet-metal screw-cap and provided with a nozzle at right angles to the barrel of the syringe, so that when the screw-cap is placed in position on a suitable receptacle the solution passes readily into the barrel of the syringe and is ejected through the nozzl of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved insect-destroying syringe shown in position for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the syringe drawn on a larger scale, and Fig. 3 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
4 In the drawings, A represents a glass or other vessel or receptacle, and B a sheet-metal screw-cap, which is fitted to the threaded neck of the receptacle A, so as to close the same. To the top of the screw-cap B is soldered the barrel 0 of the syringe, which is arranged diametrically to the top, and which communicates by an opening, a, in the cap with the interior of the vessel A, so that the liquid in said vessel is readily supplied to the barrel of the syringe when the vessel is held in a more or less inclined position. The barrel 0 is extended at one end beyond the capB and provided with a tapering nozzle, D, at right angles to the barrel C. The piston O is formed of a tightly-fitting block, of lead or other suitable material, and provided with a piston, 0 having a ring-shaped handle, 0 into which the thumb of the hand is placed, so that when the vessel is clasped by the fingers the piston can be operated by the thumb, and thereby the insect-destroying liquid ejected from the syringe.

The receptacle or vessel A is filled with a solution of benzine and carbolic acid or with any other insect-destroying medium, which is sold with the syringe, so as to be instantly ready for use, the piston being then in position, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, so as to prevent any escape of liquid through opening a and the nozzle D. When the syringe is intended to be used and the piston withdrawn, the required quantity of liquid passes to the barrel and nozzle of the syringe and is ejected by pressing the piston inward.
To secure the proper closing of the sheetmetal cap on the neck of the vessel A, an elastic gasket, 1), is interposed between the upper edge of the neck and the cap B, the said gasket being made of such material which is not aifected by the solution.
The syringe can be used for killing roaches and for killing insects on plants and flowers or destroying bed-bugs, and for other similar purposes.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. The combination, with a sheet-metal screw-cap having a supply-opening in its top part, of a syringe on said cap, the barrel of which communicates with the opening in the cap, and a nozzle arranged at right angles to the barrel of the syringe at the delivery end of the same, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a receptacle for insect-destroying solution, of a screw-cap for closing said vessel, a syringe-barrel arranged on the top of the cap, said barrel communicating through an opening in the cap with the interior of the vessel, a piston guided in said barrel and provided with a piston-rod having a ring-shaped handle, and a nozzle arranged at right angles to the barrel at the delivery end of the same, substantially as set forth.
