WILLIAM H. -NEVVELT1- 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SECRET SUPPLY, WASTE. AND OVERFLOW FOR BASINS AND BATHS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 399,691, dated March 19, 1889.
Application filed May 22, 1888.
To all whom it may concern.- v
Be itknown that 1, WILLIAM H. NEWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Secret Supply, \Vaste, and Overflow for Basins and Baths, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My'invention consists of novel features in secret supply, the waste, and overflow for a basin'or bath, as will be hereinafter set forth, and each feature definitely claimed.
Figure 1 represents a face view of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a central vertical section thereof, the valve being open. I
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a hollow stand or column having within the same, near the lower end thereof, an inclined seat, a, on which rides the inclined bottom edge, I), of the valve B, which is mounted with the tube 0, the latter being within the stand A, and having openings D, located at or about the level of the overflow-openings E' of the stand A. The nozzle F joins the confluent pipes G H, the lat'tei being adapted for hot and cold water and provided with cocks J, whose handles K are adjacent to the handle L of the tube (1.
It will be noticed, that the inner end of the nozzle F passes through the perforated cap or strainer plate I of the overflow-collar E, and is screwed to the outlet branch N of the confluent pipes G H.
The operation is as follows: \Vater, hot or cold, or both, is turned on by the cooks J and enters the basin or bath-tub through the nozzle F. As the water rises, it fills the stand,
Serial No. 274,663. (No model.)
bottom seat and the valve closes. Should the supply of water continue While the Valve is closed, it will enter the collar E and overflow through-the openings D into the tube 0, and so reach the foot or discharge pipe P. flhe ascent of the tube 0, and consequent opening of the valve B, is limited by pins 0 d, which are secured, respectively, to the bottom of the responding to the overflow-openings of the a stand, a nozzle leading from said overflowopenings, supply-pipes leading into said nozzle, and a pipe leading from said basin to said column, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. Astand having an overflow-collar, a valve and a supply-pipe, and a nozzle which passes through the covering cap or strainer of said collar and is connected with said supply-pipe, said parts being combined and operating substantially as described.
3. The confluent supply-pipes united at the overflow-collar of the stand and connected with a discharge-nozzle which passes through the strainer of said collar, substantially as described.
4. The combination of a basin with a standpipe having a valve-seat in the lower part thereof, an outletpipe and overflow-openings in the top, a tube. within said stand-pipe having overflow-openings, a valve seated on said seat in the lower part of the stand-pipe, confluent pipes leading from said overflowopenings to a nozzle discharging within the basin, and a pipe connecting-said basin and standpipe, substantially as described.
