MZZ H1/Um t 711m/ concern.- le it` known'that I, TnEoDonE ENDEAN, of
Cleveland, in the countyof Cuyahoga and State l of Ohio, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Photographers Chairs, ol' which the Vfollowing is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l. is a perspective view oi.' my photographers chair. Fig. 2 a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a pc spectivc view of the chair as arrangelfl with the bab vholding attachment. Fig. l is a detacherfl and enh rged view of backrest-adjusting mechanism. Fig. 5 is a detached and enlarged view of head-rest adj usting and holding` mechanism in connection with the platform. Fig. G is a detached and enlarged View of an adjustable clamp for holding tue head-rest rod to vertical rod. Figs.
7, S, 9, and l0 are detached views of. the separate parts conlposing said clamp.
A is a platform, which I make, preferably, in circular form, though other shapes may be made, if desired, and it is mounted on casters a a, for the convenience of rea-dil;v moving it about. i
B is a hollow pedestal secured to the center of said platform.
C is a revolving seat, supported in said pedestal b v means ot a central spindle, D, having a shoulder and reduced portion, d, incased in a spring, d?, standing on the floor of the platform, with its upper end bearing against the shoulder and supporting the spindle. Said spring, when f ree, supports the seat a short distance above the top end of the pedestal, as seen iu Fig. 2. The lower end ol' the spindle projects below the platform and engages with one end ol' a lever, E, tulcrumed at its middle part to a short hanger, e, secured to the under r side of the platform. The other end of said lever E carries a lu'ake-pad, F, which bears upon the door upon which the platform stands. It is also provided with a spring surrounding its spindle, and passing between it and the under side of the platform. the brake is to hold the chair from moving while a person is stepping onto or oft" from the platform. Then when the person is seated his weight deprcsses the lever E and lifts the brakeipad from the door. Then the operator The purpose of l may easily move the chair and sitter for per feet adjustment of position.
At one side of the seat C is attached an adi justable back-rest consisting of a bracket, G, having a circular head provided with teeth on its periphery.
Il is an arm-socket, having a horn, 71, forming a pawl with teeth, which engage with the teeth on the head of thelnackct. The socket II is jointed to the head of the b acket by links H2, pivoted to both and forming adouble joint. A spring is interposed between the head G and the pawl, and serves to keep the pawl in contact. with the head.
I is an arm secured in the socket Il, and is provided with an adj usta-ble pad, J.
At one side of the seat is attached an adj ustable arm rest, consisting of a slotted bracket, L, having a socket, Y, for the stem BI of a support, N, and is provided with a setscrew, O, for enabling the said support to have vertical and lateral adjustment. To the platform is also attached an adjustable head-rest, consisting of a lever or bar, P, pivot-ed at the inner end by an eye formed thereon, and i through which the lower end of the spindle D passes. Attached to its outer and moving end is a hollow post, Q, in which is placed a vertically-adjustable rod, R, having the adjustable head-rest arm S attached to its top, and capable of being held at any required height by means of a set-serew,S2. The bar P has a transverse cross-arm,p, provided with rollers u u., journaled in .recesses in each end thereof, and which roll on the under curved edge oi the plat-torni as the said baris moved lroin side to side..
V Y are arms projecting downward and inward from the post Q, also provided with rollers which rollupon theupper curved edge ot' the phatform on a metal track.
A fastening device for holding the head-rest at. any required place at the side of the platform is provided, consisting ot' a short lever, T, pivoted in a slot in the lower end of the post Q. The outer end of said lever T is connected b v a rod, Ti, to a han dlever, T3, resting on an arm, p2, on the post Q. The rod T'2 is pivoted atone corner of the head of the said lever 3, so that the turning of said lever ICQ upright draws upon the rod T2, and thereby pulls on the lever 'l and causes its inner end to press upon the metal track on the edge of the platform and bind the post fast.
A swivel-clamp for adjustably holding the head-rest rod S to the vert-ical rod R consists of two platesfwV \V2, the upper ends of which i are in disk form, while the lower ends have recesses in their inside faces, which fit over the head on the end of rod R.
T2 is a disk having a hole, X, through which the said rod S passes, and also has in one face an opening connecting with the said hole X, and into which a projection, X2, on the face of plate XV fits and bears against the side ofthe rod S. On the side of the disk W3 opposite to the said opening is a projection, X2, which fits into a recess, X4, in the face ot' plate \/V2, and forms a journal for the said disk NVS to turn on. On the face of the plate YV is also made a projection, X5, having a screw-threaded opening, into which a screw, XG, passed through a hole, X7, in plate 72, is screwed for holding all firmly together. The screw Xhas a lever, XS, attached, by which it is turned. This dei vice admits of universal adjustment of the l head-rest.
p In Fig. 3 is seen an attachment for holding babies to the arnrrest, consisting of a rod, R2, secured to the rod M of the arm-rest N by means of a bracket-arm, M2, having sockets and set-screws m m for adjustably securing them together. b Z7 are side supports attached to the rod by set-screws, which, in connection with the arm-rest N, forms a suitable seat for a baby. c c are arms, also attached` to rod R2 by set-screws, which are inten-ded to clasp the body of the baby and hold it to the seat. d d is a head-rest attached to the top of a cap-piece, cl2, which sets upon the top of rod R2. It has a slot, d3, in which is a strap, also intended for assisting in securing the baby to the seat.
Y isa detachable arm for supporting a refleeting-canopy over the sitter. Said arm is hooked into a socket, z, on the pedestal B, and carries an upright tubular rod, Z, into which is' fitted a sliding extension-rod, Z2, held at any suitable height by set-screw z. To the t top end of rod Z2 is attached a rod, Z3, by means of an adjustable clamp, like thatl Searle shown in Fig, 6. To one end of rod Z3 is attached a light frame, z2, having several panels provided with sliding curtains z2 c4 ,z5 Z6, tbc., which may be drawn to obscure the light more or less, as may be desired.
