HAND WATER-SPRINKLER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 397,762, dated February 12, 1889. Application filed October 27, 1888 Serial No. 289,265- (NO model.)

To all whom t may concern,.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE WASHINGTON TRAHAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Houma, in the parish of Terre Bonne and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand Water-Sprinklers; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this speciiication, and in which- My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hand water-sprinklers, andl relates more especially to .such as are designed to be adapted to the use of houses, stores, and offices; and it consists of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and described in the specification and drawings.

The general object of my invention con sists in providing a hand-sprinkler adapted for the above purposes with means for regulating and preventing the outward iiow of the water from the reservoir at will.

A further object consists in providing a sprinkler simple in its construction, effective in its operation, and more durable than any of a similar kind heretofore known to me.

Referring` to the drawings, forming a part of the application, Figure l is a perspective View of my improved sprinkler; Fig. 2, a longitudinal vertical section taken on line 6c fr of Fig. I Fig. 3, a detail view of the Valverod, and Fig. 1l a detail View of the rose.

Like letters of reference are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the entire specification and drawings.

A represents the cylindrical body of the reservoir, the lower end thereof being provided with the external screwethreadso.

A indicates the cone-shaped bottom of the reservoir, provided at its top with the internal female screw-threads, a', so as to permit of the top and bottom of the reservoir being removably secured together. The lower or bottom portion of the cone-shaped bottom A is provided with the downwardly extending screw-threaded flange a2, and the same is provided with the central aperture, a3.

C is the rose, having the upwardly-extending female screw-threaded projection c, which permits of the same being removably secured 55 to the depending extended portion of the coneshaped bottom of the reservoir, and provided with the depending flaring portion c. This flaring portion has a tendency to spread the outward Iiow of the water from the rose, as 6o well as to protect the apertures therein from clogging with dirt. If desired, the cylindrical body, cone-shaped bottom, and the rose may be soldered or connected one to the other without being removably secured; but by pref- 6 5 eren ce I prefer the former mode of connection, as I am enabled thereby to release any part of the sprinkler for the purpose of gaining access thereto for cleaning. I am also enabled, by making the rose removably secured 7o to the reservoir, to permit of a larger or smaller one being secured thereto.

The metallic plate b is provided with the aperture b2, as shown, 8o through which the valve-rod works.

Immediately above the valve, and against which the same 8 5 impinges, is secured upon the valve-rod the circular collar d. This valve I make, by preference, cone-shaped, so as to permit of the same fitting snugly within the opening formed in the bottom of the reservoir. When the 9o sprinkler is closed against the outward flow of the water, the valve will fit within the aperture a3, an d is held in place by the pressure of the collar secured to the valve-rod, spring E, and the retained liquid within the reservoir. 95
