Description

(No Model.)
A. WAGGONER.
VEHICLE DASHER.
Patented Jan. l, 1889.
torney WITNESSES, A @l 4Q UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT VAGGONER, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
VEHICLE-DASH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 395,599, dated January 1, 1889. Application tiled May 26,1888. Serial No. 275,131. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: l
Be it known that I, ALBERT WAGGONEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vehicle-Dashes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to novel improve-l ments in vehicle dash-boards; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same, whereby the dash-board can be readily removed and replaced to the vehicle, all as will be hereinafter fully explained.
The annexed drawings, to which referei'lce is made, i'nlly illustrate my invention, in which- Figure l, represents a front view of my device. Fig. 2 is a detail vertical sectional view of the same. Figs. 3, I, 5, i5, 7, and S are detail views showing` my device in modi tied form.
Referring` by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the dash-board, consisting of the upper and lower horizontal rail s, uy and b, and the vertical bars @,which is covered with leather in the well-known manner. At the lower portion or bottom ol' the dashboard I provide means whereby the same can be readilv removed and the same consists in l, 7 l e ln'oviding a series ot lugs or pro]ect1ons,(,
between which are open spaces e, adapted to straifldle a bolt, f, connected to an L- shaped iron, g, which is secured to the vehicle-body.
It will thus be seen by reference to the annexed drawings that in attaching my dashboard to a vehicle the lugs or fingers are caused to straddle the bolt, after which the nut 7L thereon is screwed home, thus binding said iin gers or lugs between the L-shaped iron and the head of the bolt, thereby firmly hold- 'i ng the dash-board in its proper position.
In removing the daslrboard the operator simply loosens the nut, after which the dash can be raised and relieved :from the bolt without removing the latter or the iron g, and itis simple in operation, durable, and at the same time cheap to manufacture.
I do not conline myself to the exact construction of the lugs or fingers herein shown, as lugs or fingers of Various shapes can be employed without departing from the spirit ot my invention. Neither do I confine myseltl to forming the lingers or lugs integral with the dash-board, as the same can be constructed separately therefrom and attached thereto.
I am aware that patents numbered 37 1,2152 and 279,412 have been. granted for vehicledashes, and I do not claim the construction shown therein; but
What I claim isl. A vehielefdash provided with projections or lugs having spaces between them, as at e, and said spaces open at onel end, in combination with the bolt f, having the nut 71, and L- shaped perforated iron g, substantially as described, for securing the dash to the vehicle.
A vehicle dash-board having open slots formed by projecting lugs or rfingers, in combination with the fastening-bolt and l..shaped iron, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aftix my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
ALBERT WAGGONER.
Iitnessesz A. J. PEMBROKE, P. E. FLECK.
