BIDET.
SPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,461, dated November 6, 1888.
Appiwtin fiea December s, ssi. serial No. estesa' (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that T, J oHN BEID, of Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, haveinvented an lmprovement i n Bidets, of which the following is a specifcation.
Bidets have heretofore been made for use in connection with water-closets, and in some instances a separate basin has been set in woodwork having a Water -jet tube passing up through the bottom thereof; but these basins are liable to bccone misplaced, and they are unsightly and inconvenient, and the wooden inclosure is liable to become a harbor 'for Vermin.
My present invention relatcs to a bidet made entirely of porcelain and having a hollow base to rest upon the floor and an opening through the rear part of the base to give access to the tubes made use of for supplying Water and for 'i the discharge of the contents of the basin.
By this improvement the bidet can be placed in a smaller space than heretofore, it is more convenient in use, and much more sightly and cleanly than those heretofore made.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the said bidet, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.
The bowl A and base B are made in one The bowl is oval, being much longer from front to back than the width thereof, and the upper edge of the bowl is a rounding fiange.
The base Bis hollow and provided with a suitable bottom flange for resting upon the floor, and there is an opening in the rear part of the base that forms a hand-hole to give access to the couplings and connections O of the water-pipe D and escape-pipe E, there being hole through the bottom of the basin similar to an opening in the bottom of a wash- 40 basin for the reception of these pipes. The water-pipe D terminates in a nozzle that is central within the escape-pipe, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the water can be directed against the person, and the discharge of water from the basin A will not be interfered with.
Where only warm or cold water is made use of, there will only be one cock; but I have represented the two cocks G and H, one for hot and the other for cold water, the pipes leading to and from the same being arranged in any well-known manner as usual in appliances for bath-tubs.
The fiange at the upper edge of the basin A may form the seat of the bidet; but usually it is preferable to provide a wooden seat, K, connected to the wall-plate L, and a hinged cover, M, that is to be raised when the bidet is nade use of.
I claim as my inventionl. The porcelain bidet ha-ving au oblong basin .With a top fiange, a hollow base for the same in one piece with the basin and having a bottom flauge, an opening into the base at the rear forming a hand-hole, and an opening through the bottom of the basin for the metallic water-pipe, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the wooden seat, wall-plate, and hinged cover, of a porcelain bidet having a bowl and hollow base made in one piece and the discharge and supply water-pipes at the bottom of the basin and within the hollow base, substantially as set forth.
Signed by me this lst day of December, 1887.
