WINDOW-SHELF FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,257, dated November 6, 1888.
Application filed April 21, 1888. Serial No. 271.481. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, FRED CAMERON and EDWIN AUeUsTUs CAMERON, citizens of the United States, residing at Tinmouth, in the county of Rutland and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in \Vindow-Shelf Fastenings; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to detachably and adjustably secure a shelf to a window-frame without any defacement thereof, and so that the shelf may be quickly taken down or adjusted to any preferred elevation.
Figure l of the drawings is a front elevation showing our invention applied; Fig. 2, a bottom' view in perspective, and Fig. 3 a transverse section on line a: or of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, A represents a windowshelf rabbeted at the corners to fit around the opposite angles of the casing. By screws, or in any other preferred way, we fasten the ways B B to the bottom of the shelf, so as to form dovetailed or undercut grooves, in which may slide the angle-bars C C. To these bars we make fast the brackets D D, each having a nut, (Z, at one end and a friction-plate, d, at the other, the latter being made preferably of rubber.
E is a rod having on its opposite ends the right-and-left screws 6 e, which work in the bracket-nuts cl d, and the groove c,'in which fit the prongsffof the anglc-plate G, so as to prevent the rods lateral displacement.
c is a squared portion of the rod to form a wrench-hold, by which the rod may be turned to clamp the brackets D D against the opposite inner sides of the window-frame or unfasten it therefrom. Thus it will be seen that the shelf may be clamped securely at any elevation, for the purpose of holding flowers or other things.
The ways B and pronged angle-plate G are detaehabl y secured to the shelf, so that the center of the shelf may be brought on either side of the rod, and the brackets D are braced by the scroll-work H, which also serves to hide the ends of the screws from view. The brackets are concaved and cut out, so as to press on the corners, while the ends are provided with the checked rubber strips d, so as to prevent any defacement of the windowcasing. From the lower corner of the bracket to the shelf is formed a brace, I, which prevents the shelf from tipping toward or from the window.
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of our invention, what we claim as new,and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a window'shelf, of the ways B, angle-bars (l G, brackets D D, and right-and-left screw E, the latter working in nuts of the brackets, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
