Shee12 of2 3,918,661 v -U.S. Patent Nov. 11, 1975 PAPER ROLL HOLDER The present invention relates to holders for a roll of paper such as toilet paper, paper towel and the like, and more particularly to a holder for a T01] of paper consisting of two webs with transverse perforations or slits at regular intervals.
It is known that two webs of paper with transverse perforations or slits at regular intervals are wound into a roll so that the perforations or slits on one web may be positioned between those on the other web. However, the conventional holder for use for the aforesaid paper roll was provided with a pair of opposed rollers or bill members adjacent the guide opening of the holder for holding and pressing the free end of the paper for the convenience of tearing off a sheet along the perforation lines, resulting in complicated structure and inconvenience in setting a roll of paper.
An object of the present invention is to obviate the defects of the conventional holder, and to provide a holder which is simple in construction and convenient in setting a roll of paper and tearing off a sheet therefrom.
A preferred embodiment of the present invention will be described hereinunder in reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a perspective of the holder in which a paper roll is set.
FIG. 2 is a side elevation, broken away in part, of the foregoing.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken along the line IIIIII of FIG. 3 showing the paper roll set in the holder.
FIG. 4 is a front view ofa roller mounted on an upper lid.
FIG. 5 is a plan, broken away in part, of the part indicated by V in FIG. 2, showing the mounting part of the upper lid on a back plate.
FIG. 6 is a perspective showing the roller and paper roll.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 6, the numeral 11 designates a holder comprising a back plate 12 for mounting said holder on a wall or the like, a pair of side plates 13 opposed to each other, an upper lid 14 and a roller 15 fixed to the front part of the upper lid 14.
The side plates 13 project forwardly from the back plate 12 at right angles therewith. One of the side plates 13 may be secured to the back plate 12, the other side plate being pivotally connected to the back plate 12 and inwardly biased by a spring (not shown). As shown in FIG. 3, a cylindrical member 16 is coaxially provided on the inner face of each side plate 13 at the front portion thereof for rotatably supporting the paper roll A between said side plates 13 with a core 17 of the paper roll outwardly fitted to the cylindrical members 16.
A projection 18 is provided on the lid 14 at each end portion of the rear edge thereof, a recess 20 engageable with said projection 18 being formed in the front edge of an upper wall 19 projecting forwardly on the upper edge of the back plate 12, said lid 14 being pivotally connected to said upper wall 19 by inserting a pin 21 through the recess 20 and the projection 18 thereby adapting said lid 14 to be vertically turnable around the the The lid 14 has substantially the same length as the Space between the side plates 13 and a width sufficient to cover the upper periphery of the paper roll A supported between said side plates 13.
The upper lid 14 is provided at both sides thereof with side walls 22 downwardly perpendicular with respect to the lid 14, a roller 15 being rotatably mounted so as to be parallel with the paper roll A between the side walls 22 beneath the upper lid 14 at the front portion thereof.
The roller 15 is rotatably supported at both ends thereof within holes 23 in the side walls 22, a plurality of larger diameter bulges 24 being formed on the exterior periphery of the roller 15.
The aforementioned bulges: 24 are brought into pressure contact by the weight thereof and that of the upper lid 14 against the upper peripheral face of the paper roll A supported by the side plates 13. The bulges 24 prevent the occurrence of twists of the paper A by rotating with the paper roll A when paper is drawn out and by partially applying pressure to said paper roll A.
The paper roll A in the holder 11 comprises two webs C and D provided with perforations thereon at regular intervals, said perforations being adapted to appear alternately on said webs C and D.
In using the holder 11 as hereinbefor described, the holder 11 is .secured at any desired location on the wall by the back plate 12 thereof, paper roll A being fitted between the side plates 13 by pivoting at least one of said side plates 13 outwardly, the cylindrical members 16 being fitted into the core 117 of the paper roll A by releasing the side plates 13, the roll paper A being set between the side plates 13 as shown in FIG. 1.
When the free end of the paper roll A is drawn out of the holder, if the perforations B on the upper and lower webs D and C are positioned inside the roller 15, the webs advance further forward, but when the perforation B on either webs, for example, on the lower web moves past the roller 15, a sheet is torn off from the lower web along the perforation line thereof due to the tensile strength acting on the perforation and the press ing force of the roller 15 acting on a next sheet of the lower web. Since half of a sheet of the upper web has then been drawn out of the roller 15 together with the lower web from which a sheet had been torn off, the sheet of the upper web can be in turn drawn further for the next use.
Since the upper lid 14 is vertically turnable and the roller 15 is constantly brought into pressure contact with the exterior periphery of the paper roll A by the weight of said roller 15 and that of the upper lid 14, the paper roll A can be entirely used even when the diameter thereof diminishes according to consumption of said paper roll A.
The holder 11 is convenient not only to see how I much of the paper roll A has been consumed, since the paper roll A is exposed, but also for setting the paper roll A in said holder 11 due to the simplified construction thereof.
What is claimed is:
1. A paper roll holder for holding a roll of paper consisting of overlapping webs with perforations at regular intervals, said holder comprising a back plate, side plates projecting from the back plate for rotatably supporting a roll of paper, a lid pivotally connected to said back plate at the upper portion thereof, and a roller longitudinally provided on said lid at the front thereof and having a plurality of spaced bulges of greater diam eter provided on the periphery of said roller to prevent twisting of the paper being withdrawn.
