FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 391,790, dated @etober 30, 1888.
Application filed August 10, 1867. Serial No. 246,569. (No model.)

Be it known that 1, JOHN WOOL GnIswoLn, of Troy, Rensselaer County, New .York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in FencePostsof which the following is a speciiication.
My invention consists in a straight semitubular fence-post of metal, which may be provided with a flattened and pointed extremity.
In the accompanying drawings. Figure l is a perspective view of my improved fence-post. Fig. 2 is a section of the same on the line Y ,Y, and Fig. 3 is a section on the line X X of Fig. 4 shows the upper end of said i portion, 13. The wire, rails, or like parts of the feneeare attached in an ysuitable man nor to part A,and the portion Bis driven into the ground. The upper extremity of the post may also be flattened, as shown in Fig. 4 at O,so that a rail may be attached to said flattened portion by bolts or otherwise. In Fig. 4 the lower portion of the post, which is precisely similar to the end of the post shown in Fig. 2, is omitted. The shape of this post insures ample stiffness and strength, while it is very cheaply made.
I claim 1. As a new article of manufacture, a metallic fence-post semicircular in cross-section and produced by longitudinally dividing a tube of uniform diameter and having an extremity flattened and pointed, substantially as described.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a me tallic fence-post semicircular in cross-section and produced by longitudinally dividing a tube of uniform diameter and having one extremity flattened and the other extremity fiattened and pointed, substantially as described.
