THILL COUPLING.
No. 391,754. Patented Oct. 23, 1888.

PATENT OFFICE.
MINER N. LOEHR, OF
WARSAW, INDIANA.
THlLL-COUPLING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 391,554, dated October 23, 1888.
Application filed May 24, 1888.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MINER N. LOEHR, of "Warsaw, in the county of Kosciusko and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Thill-Ooupling,ofwhich the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to an improvement in thill-couplings, and has for its object to provide a thill-coupling which will be durable and will not rattle.
The invention consists of a thill-coupling constructed and arranged as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of referenceindicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a plan view partly in section and broken away, showing a thill-coupling constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof on the line 00 w, and Figs. 3, 4, and 5 represent details thereof detached.
In the construction of this invention the thilldro'n 1 is connected to the axle-clip 2 by means of a screw-threaded bushing, 3, screwed into the threaded socket end 4 of the thill-iron 1, and having its ends projecting from the socket end 4. and bearing against the ears 5 of the clip 2. The bushing 3 is formed with a square hole, 6, and the ears 5, with square holes 7, through which projects a correspondingly-shaped bolt, 8, having a screw-threaded end, 9, and retainingnut 10. It will thus be seen that the bushing 3 is held from turning by the square-shaped bolt 8,and that the socket end 4. of thill-iron 1 turns on the bushing 3. By tightening the nut 10 the ears 5 are Serial No. 274,905. (No model.)
drawn against the ends of the bushing 3,tl1ereby preventing rattling. As the ends of the bushing 3 are worn, the ears 5 may be drawn up against them, as just described. The wear upon the screw-threaded parts of the bushing and socket 4 will be small, so that a durable coupling will be had and rattling thereof will.
be avoided.
\Vhile I have described a specific construction of parts, I do not intend to limit myself thereto, as they may be varied without departing from the essential features of the invenbination with bushing 3, screwed into the socket end land having ends projecting therefrom, and square hole 6, with axle-clip 2,having ears 5, with square holes 7, and square shaped bolt 8, projecting through holes 6 and 7 and secured by not 10, the bushing 31 being located between the ears 5 of clip 2, substantially as described.
