E. O. BLATT.
OAR MARKER. No. 391,679. Patented Oct. 23, 1888.
Unrrnn 1 mar rrrnn,
EDWARD O. BLATT, OF WVATER CURE, PENNSYLVANIA.
CAR-JWARKER,
SPECIFICATION forming part: of Letters Patent No. 391,679, dated October 23, 1888.
Application filed July 9, 1888. Serial No. 279,450. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD O. BLATT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Water Cure, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in OarMarkers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved device for holding cards on railway-cars; and it con sists in a tapering grooved or channeled rack in the form of a triangle, which in practice is securely attached by small nails to the side of the car, as will be fully set forth hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved device for holding cards constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same, taken on the line 5000. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view on the line yy.
To put my invention into practice, Iconstruct a tapering metallic frame, a, having inwardlyprojecting flanges, which form a groove or channel, 12," about the entire frame a, except at the top where the outer flange is dispensed with, in order to leave an opening through which the cards may be introduced. About the periphery of the frame a, I form a number of small holes, 0, extending entirely through the same, which serve as a means for securing the frame a to the side of a car with small nails.
By means ofthis device a large or small card may be confined therein, the edges resting in the groove or channel 22, those of small size occupying a position at or near the base ofthe frame a and the largersize cards ranged above.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
A device for holding marking-cards on railway-cars, consisting of the triangularshaped frame (1, having inwardly-projecting flanges forming a groove or channel, I), about the lower portion and sides of the same, the open orunflanged portion at the top for inserting the cards into the groove b, and a series of small holes, 0, about the periphery of the frame a, for attaching the device to the side of a railway-car, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto affiX mysignature this 22d day of December, A. D. 1887.
EDWARD O. BLATT. [L. s.]
