Abstract

A neck protector attachable to infant''s clothing to protect the wearer from the top and head of a slide fastener. The neck protector is detachably fastened to both the inside and outside of a child''s garment fastening about the collar and neck band.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING The objects and features of the invention may be understood with reference to the following detailed description of an illustrative embodiment of the invention, taken together with the accompanying drawings in which:

FIG. 4 is a plan view of the attachments fitted to the inside of a garment, to which the device is fastened; and

FIG. 5 is a plan view of an alternative embodiment of the invention.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Turning now descriptively to the drawings, in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views, FIG. 1 illustrates the neck protector fastened about the front section of the collar 12 of a jacket garment 11 so as to enclose the top section 14 of the slide fastener 13 of the garment and to protect the neck and chin of the wearer of the garment from being scratched by the slide fastener 13 or its slider member.

The protector 10, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 is a section of flexible material of generally rectangular proportions decoratively shaped and finished which is fitted with four snap fasteners 15, each located near an adjacent corner 18 of the protector 10 and on the inside face of the protector.

Four mating snap fasteners 16 are fastened on the garment 11, with one located on each side of the collar 12 on the external face of the garment, on opposed sides of the slide fastener opening, with the remaining two mating fasteners 16 fitted as shown in FIG. 4 on the internal surface of the garment 11, each directly aligned with an externally located fastener.

In use, the protector is fastened to the internal surface of the garment behind the collar, with the protector extending over the top of the slide fastener 13, folded about mid-line X-X of the protector and fastened to the two external fasteners 16 of the garment.

As shown in FIG. 5, the neck protector 20 may be permanently fastened to the garment 21 by one permanent fastener 26, so that laundering of garment 21 and protector 20 may be accomplished without separating the two units. The garment 21 is is fitted with three fasteners 16 which matingly attach with the three snap fasteners 15 of the protector 20.

Since obvious changes may be made to the specific embodiment of the invention described herein, such modifications being within the spirit and scope of the invention claimed, it is indicated that all matter contained herein is intended as illustrative and not as limiting in scope.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. An article of clothing with a neck opening adaptable for fitting about the neck of a wearer fitted with a slide fastener which extends from the neck opening of the garment in which the end of the slide fastener at the garment neck opening is enclosed by a detachable protector,

said protector being formed of a flexible sheet of material of generally rectangular proportions fitted with a plurality of detachable snap fastener portions,

said article of clothing being fitted with a plurality of mating snap fastener portions that may each fasten to a snap fastener portion of the protector,

said snap fastener portions of the protector and on the garment located so that the protector may be fastened to both the inner and the outer sides of the garment about the end of the slide fastener at the garment neck opening so as to enclose the end opening of the slide fastener, with the snap fasteners located both on the inside surface and the exterior surface of the garment at a distance from each side of the slide fastener.

2. The combination as recited in claim 1 in which two snap fastener portions are located on the inside surface of the garment, one on each side of the slide fastener, and two other snap fastener portions are located on the outside surface of the garment, one on each side of the slide fastener, with four mating snap fastener portions fitted on the protector located so as to fasten the protector to the four snap fastener portions of the garment in the installed position.

3. The combination as recited in claim 2 in which the garment is a jacket and the protector is fastened to the collar of the jacket about each side of the top opening of the slide fastener of the jacket.

4. The combination as recited in claim 1 in which one corner of the protector is permanently fastened to the garment, at a distance from the slide fastener and three snap fastener portions are located on the garment to join three snap fastener portions on the protector in the installed position.

Claims

1. An article of clothing with a neck opening adaptable for fitting about the neck of a wearer fitted with a slide fastener which extends from the neck opening of the garment In which the end of the slide fastener at the garment neck opening is enclosed by a detachable protector, said protector being formed of a flexible sheet of material of generally rectangular proportions fitted with a plurality of detachable snap fastener portions, said article of clothing being fitted with a plurality of mating snap fastener portions that may each fasten to a snap fastener portion of the protector, said snap fastener portions of the protector and on the garment located so that the protector may be fastened to both the inner and the outer sides of the garment about the end of the slide fastener at the garment neck opening so as to enclose the end opening of the slide fastener, with the snap fasteners located both on the inside surface and the exterior surface of the garment at a distance from each side of the slide fastener.
